Maya & Malik

📞 SHANIECE CALLS MAYA

Maya is in her Miami apartment, packing a small overnight bag, still thinking about Jenna and Mariah and everything happening around her.

Her phone buzzes.

Shaniece:   “Mi sis… yuh talk to Malik yet?”

Maya freezes.

Maya:   “…About what?”

Shaniece sucks her teeth so loud the phone vibrate.

“Maya. Don’t play wid mi. Yuh coming to Jamaica or not?”

Maya sighs, sits on the edge of her bed.

“I’m coming… I just haven’t told him yet.”

Shaniece nearly screams.

“MAYA! Yuh know how Malik stay — if him hear it from somebody else, him ago feel a way!”

Maya rubs her forehead.

“Alright, alright… mi a call him now.”

📞 MAYA CALLS MALIK — MIAMI TO MIAMI, HEART TO HEART

Shaniece hangs up, shaking her head like, “Maya need fi stop play wid dat man.”

Maya exhales, sits on her bed, and finally presses call.

Malik answers with that warm, familiar Miami drawl mixed with Kingston roots.

“Babes?”

Maya smiles without meaning to.

“Hey… you busy?”

“Mi coulda be, but mi not. Talk to mi.”

She laughs softly — he always does that.

🏀 THE LAST DATE — THE MIAMI HEAT GLOW

Malik’s voice warms instantly.

“Mi still thinking ’bout Sunday night, yuh know.”

Maya blushes.

“The game?”

“The game was alright. You were the part mi remember.”

She rolls her eyes, but her smile gives her away.

“It was a good date.”

“Good? Maya… it was perfect.”

Her heart does that little flutter she hates admitting.

🌴 THE “CASUAL” ANNOUNCEMENT

She clears her throat, trying to sound breezy.

“So… I’ve been thinking about going to Jamaica sometime this month.”

Malik sits up straight on his couch in Miami.

“Jamaica?”

“Yeah. I haven’t picked a date yet.”

He goes quiet — not upset, just processing.

“What bring that on?”

“I just… need a break. Need home. Need the Lane.”

Malik hums softly, like he understands more than she said.

😏 HE TOYS WITH IT — JUST A LITTLE

“So you going Jamaica… and mi hearing it last?”

Maya laughs.

“I’m telling you now.”

“Mhm. And you expect mi fi just stay here in Miami while you deh pon the Lane?”

She nudges him with her voice.

“Malik, stop.”

“Mi serious. You know mi love when you deh Jamaica.”

Her chest warms again.

💫 THE TEST — THE QUESTION SHE DIDN’T PLAN TO ASK

Trying to sound casual — too casual — she says:

“Would you… want to come?”

She expects him to tease her. To dodge. To play it cool.

But Malik doesn’t even pause.

Not one beat.

“Yes.”

Maya freezes.

“…Yes?”

“Yes, Maya. If you going Jamaica, mi going Jamaica too.”

Her breath catches.

“You serious?”

“Dead serious. Mi nah mek you fly down deh by yuhself. Mi deh wid you.”

She sits there stunned — because she asked the question as a test, a joke, a little poke at his ego.

But he answered like a man who already made up his mind.

🌞 THE SHIFT — THE UNEXPECTED WARMTH

Maya whispers:

“I didn’t think you’d say yes.”

Malik chuckles low.

“Babes… you underestimate how mi feel ’bout you.”

Her whole chest warms.

“So… we’re going to Jamaica?”

“We are.”

🏠 MALIK TELLS JORDAN HE’S FLYING TO JAMAICA

Jordan is in his apartment, barefoot, eating plantain straight from the pan like a criminal, when Malik walks in without knocking.

“Yo.”

Jordan looks up.

“Wah gwaan?”

Malik leans against the counter, arms folded, trying to look casual but failing miserably.

“Mi flying out this month.”

Jordan pauses mid‑chew.

“…Flying out go weh?”

Malik clears his throat.

“Jamaica.”

Jordan squints.

“Since when you have trip?”

Malik shrugs, pretending it’s nothing.

“Since Maya say she thinking ’bout going.”

Jordan drops the fork.

“EH?!”

Malik tries not to smile.

“She mention it on the phone. Mi tell her — if she going Jamaica, mi going Jamaica.”

Jordan stares at him like he’s watching a telenovela.

“So wait… you just pack up and fly out because the girl thinking ’bout going?”

Malik smirks.

“Mi testing her too. She ask me if mi would come. Mi tell her yes. Straight.”

Jordan shakes his head, laughing.

“Boy, you in DEEP.”

Malik doesn’t deny it.

🎨 JORDAN’S TURN — THE PLOT TWIST

Jordan wipes his hands, suddenly quieter.

“Well… since you going… mi might go too.”

Malik raises an eyebrow.

“You? Go Jamaica? For what?”

Jordan hesitates — just a beat — then says it.

“Mariah invited to the lane opening… fi display her art.”

Malik’s whole face changes.

“Mariah? As in… MARIAH?”

Jordan nods slowly.

“Yeah.”

Malik whistles low.

“So you thinking fi go see her?”

Jordan doesn’t answer right away. He just looks down at the plantain pan like it holds the secrets of the universe.

“Mi not sure yet… but… mi thinking.”

Malik steps closer, voice softer.

“Cuz… if yuh want closure, go. If yuh want trouble, stay home.”

Jordan laughs.

“Is not trouble mi want.”

Malik gives him a look.

“You sure?”

Jordan sighs.

“Mi don’t know what mi want. But… seeing her work on the lane? That feel big.”

Malik nods.

“So come. The lane opening going be vibes. Maya deh go. Shanice deh go. The whole place excited.”

Jordan smirks.

“And you deh go because of Maya.”

Malik shrugs.

“And you deh go because of Mariah.”

They both laugh — loud, stupid, cousin laughter.

📞 MARIAH CALLS JORDAN — THE AIRPORT THANK‑YOU

Jordan is in his apartment, folding clothes he’s not even sure he wants to wear, when his phone buzzes.

He glances at the screen.

Mariah.

His whole chest tightens — not in panic, but in that steady yourself way he always does before talking to her.

He answers.

“Hey.”

Mariah’s voice is soft, warm, a little shy.

“Hi… I just wanted to call and say thank you.”

Jordan sits down on the edge of his bed.

“For what?”

“For rescuing me at the airport. For staying on the phone with me. For… showing up.”

Jordan’s voice drops low.

“You don’t have to thank me for that. I wasn’t leaving you there.”

Mariah smiles — he can hear it.

“Still… it meant a lot.”

✈️ THE RESERVATION PROBLEM

Jordan clears his throat.

“You get a reservation yet?”

Mariah groans softly.

“No. Every flight is booked or overpriced. I’m trying again tonight.”

Jordan chuckles.

“You always wait last minute.”

“I know, I know… don’t judge me.”

“Mi not judging. Mi just saying — you need help?”

Mariah hesitates.

“I’ll figure it out.”

Jordan hums.

“You sure?”

Mariah’s voice softens.

“Yeah… I’m sure.”

But she doesn’t sound sure.

Not even a little.

🌴 THE MOMENT HE DROPS THE NEWS

Jordan leans back, staring at the ceiling.

“Well… I might see you there anyway.”

Mariah blinks.

“…See me where?”

Jordan smiles.

“Jamaica.”

Silence.

Not cold silence — the kind where a woman’s heart skips a beat.

“You’re going to Jamaica?”

“Yeah. Malik flying out this month… and mi going with him.”

Mariah’s breath catches.

“Oh.”

Jordan hears the shift — that tiny, involuntary softness she didn’t mean to let slip.

“You sound surprised.”

Mariah tries to recover.

“I just… didn’t expect that.”

Jordan’s voice drops even lower.

“Why?”

Mariah swallows.

“Because… I didn’t think you’d want to.”

Jordan lets that sit for a moment.

Then:

“If you’re going… why wouldn’t I want to?”

Mariah goes quiet again — not because she’s confused, but because she understands exactly what he just said without saying it.

🌺 THE UNSAID THINGS BETWEEN THEM

Mariah finally whispers:

“Jordan…”

He answers gently.

“Yeah?”

“You don’t have to come because of me.”

Jordan chuckles softly.

“Mi not coming because of you.”

Mariah’s heart drops a little.

Then he adds:

“…but mi not pretending like seeing you there wouldn’t be nice.”

Mariah closes her eyes.

“You’re trouble.”

Jordan smiles.

“You calling me trouble… but you the one who calling me first.”

Mariah laughs — that soft, warm laugh he hasn’t heard in months.

“Goodbye, Jordan.”

“Later, Riah.”

They don’t hang up right away.

They never do.

📞 JORDAN TELLING MALIK ABOUT THE CALL

Malik is in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, scrolling his phone, minding his business. Jordan walks in with that look — the one Malik knows too well.

Malik doesn’t even look up.

“Who call yuh?”

Jordan pauses.

“…Mariah.”

Malik’s head snaps up so fast he nearly sprains his neck.

“EH?!”

Jordan tries to play it cool, leaning on the fridge like he not shaking inside.

“She just… called to thank me.”

Malik squints.

“Thank you fi what?”

Jordan clears his throat.

“For rescuing her at the airport.”

Malik puts the phone down slow.

“Jordan… what you mean rescuing?”

Jordan sighs.

“She was stranded. Mi help her. Mi stay on the phone with her. Mi make sure she reach home safe.”

Malik stares at him.

“So… she call you… just fi tell you thank you?”

Jordan nods.

Malik smirks.

“And you answer the phone so fast you nearly fling yuh shoulder out, right?”

Jordan rolls his eyes.

“Shut up.”

🌺 THE PART THAT SHIFTS THE ROOM

Jordan sits down.

Voice softer now.

“We talk ’bout her reservation too. She still can’t get a flight.”

Malik nods.

“Yeah, flights rough right now.”

Jordan hesitates.

Then drops it.

“Mi tell her mi going Jamaica.”

Malik freezes.

“…You tell her WHAT?”

Jordan shrugs, pretending it’s nothing.

“Mi going with you. So mi tell her.”

Malik’s eyes widen.

“And what she say?”

Jordan looks away — that tiny, vulnerable flicker.

“She sound… surprised.”

Malik leans forward.

“Surprised good or surprised bad?”

Jordan exhales.

“Surprised like… she didn’t expect mi fi want to be where she is.”

Malik whistles low.

“Cuz… you in trouble.”

Jordan laughs under his breath.

“Mi know.”

🔥 THE COUSIN BREAKDOWN

Malik folds his arms.

“So… you going Jamaica because of her?”

Jordan shakes his head.

“No. Mi going because mi need the break. But mi not pretending like seeing her wouldn’t be… nice.”

Malik grins.

“Nice? Jordan… that girl still hold space inna yuh chest.”

Jordan doesn’t deny it.

Not even a little.

🌴 THE FORESHADOWING

Malik claps him on the shoulder.

“Aight. Pack yuh bag. Jamaica ago reveal some tings.”

Jordan nods slowly.

“Yeah… mi feel it too.”

And somewhere in her studio, Mariah is staring at her phone, wondering why hearing he’s coming made her heart beat different.

🌺 MARIAH TELLING JENNA HOW THE CALL MADE HER FEEL

Jenna is curled up on Mariah’s couch, wrapped in a blanket, sipping tea like she trying to warm her soul back to life. Mariah is pacing — not fast, not frantic — just that slow, thoughtful walk she does when something touched her deeper than she expected.

Jenna watches her.

“You’re quiet.”

Mariah stops, exhales.

“I talked to Jordan.”

Jenna sits up straighter.

“Oh?”

Mariah nods, rubbing her thumb along her palm — a nervous habit Jenna rarely sees.

“I called to thank him… for the airport thing.”

Jenna smiles gently.

“That was sweet of you.”

Mariah shakes her head.

“It didn’t feel sweet. It felt… necessary.”

Jenna tilts her head.

“Necessary how?”

Mariah sits beside her, pulling her knees up.

Her voice softens.

“Because when he answered… my whole chest shifted.”

Jenna’s eyes widen.

“Shifted?”

Mariah nods again, slower this time.

“Like… something I thought I buried moved.”

💫 THE PART SHE DIDN’T EXPECT TO SAY OUT LOUD

Mariah stares at her hands.

“He asked about my flight. He offered to help. He… cared.”

Jenna touches her arm gently.

“And that surprised you?”

Mariah laughs — a small, breathy sound.

“It scared me.”

Jenna’s voice drops.

“Why?”

Mariah looks up, eyes soft but honest.

“Because I didn’t realize how much I missed being cared for… until I heard it again.”

Jenna’s expression melts.

“Oh, Riah…”

Mariah continues, voice barely above a whisper.

“And then he told me he’s going to Jamaica.”

Jenna’s eyebrows shoot up.

“He WHAT?”

Mariah nods.

“He said he’s going with his cousin. But the way he said it… it felt like he was telling me.”

Jenna leans back, processing.

“And how did that make you feel?”

Mariah closes her eyes for a moment.

Then:

“Seen. Wanted. But also… unsteady.”

Jenna squeezes her hand.

“Unsteady doesn’t mean wrong. It means real.”

Mariah exhales, long and slow.

“I don’t know what Jamaica is about to bring… but something is coming.”

Jenna nods.

“And you’re ready for it. Even if you don’t feel ready.”

Mariah leans her head on Jenna’s shoulder.

“Yeah… maybe.”

And in that quiet moment, with tea cooling on the table and the Caribbean breeze whispering through the window, Mariah finally lets herself feel the truth:

Jordan still lives somewhere in her heart. And Jamaica might be the place where that truth finally steps into the light.

✈️ JORDAN BOOKING HIS FLIGHT — THE DECISION MOMENT

Jordan is in his room, suitcase half‑open on the bed, clothes scattered like he’s packing and unpacking at the same time. He’s been pacing for ten minutes, phone in hand, thumb hovering over the airline app.

Malik walks past the door, peeks in.

“You book it yet?”

Jordan doesn’t look up.

“Mi looking.”

Malik leans on the doorframe.

“Looking is not booking, cuz.”

Jordan exhales, sits on the edge of the bed, staring at the screen like it’s a life decision — because it is.

🌺 THE CALL STILL IN HIS CHEST

He hears Mariah’s voice in his head:

“Thank you for rescuing me…”

He remembers the softness. The surprise. The way her breath shifted when he said he might see her in Jamaica.

He scrolls.

He sees the price.

He winces.

“Lawd God…”

Malik laughs from the doorway.

“If you fraid fi the price, stay home.”

Jordan shoots him a look.

“Mi not fraid. Mi just… thinking.”

Malik steps inside.

“Thinking ’bout what? The flight? Or the girl?”

Jordan doesn’t answer.

He doesn’t have to.

🔥 THE MOMENT HE COMMITS

Jordan inhales deep. Thumb hovering over “Purchase.”

He whispers to himself:

“If mi don’t go… mi ago regret it.”

Malik nods.

“So go.”

Jordan presses the button.

CLICK.

The confirmation pops up.

“Flight to Kingston — Booked.”

Jordan leans back, staring at the screen like it just changed his destiny.

Malik grins.

“So you really coming Jamaica wid mi.”

Jordan smirks.

“Yeah. And mi not hiding from nobody.”

Malik claps him on the shoulder.

“Good. Because Jamaica ago reveal some tings.”

Jordan nods slowly.

“Mi ready.”

But deep down?

He’s not ready.

Not for Mariah. Not for the Lane. Not for the truth waiting for him in Jamaica.

And that’s exactly why he has to go.

🌺 MARIAH GETTING HER FLIGHT CONFIRMATION

Mariah is in her studio, barefoot, paint on her fingers, hair tied up in that loose bun she only wears when she’s deep in her feelings. Jenna is on the couch, scrolling quietly, wrapped in a blanket like a little cocoon.

Mariah refreshes the airline page for the sixth time.

Still nothing.

She sighs, drops her head back.

“This is ridiculous.”

Jenna looks up.

“Still no flights?”

“None. Everything booked. Everything overpriced. Everything impossible.”

Jenna gives her a soft smile.

“Maybe it’s not impossible. Maybe it’s just… waiting for the right moment.”

Mariah rolls her eyes — but gently.

“You sound like my grandmother.”

“Your grandmother was right.”

Mariah laughs under her breath and hits refresh one more time.

And then—

A seat opens.

One. Just one.

Mariah freezes.

Jenna sits up.

“What? What happened?”

Mariah whispers:

“A flight. There’s a flight.”

Jenna jumps up.

“BOOK IT!”

Mariah’s hands shake as she types in her info, heart pounding like she running a race she didn’t train for.

She hits Purchase.

The screen loads.

Loads.

Loads.

Then—

“Reservation Confirmed.”

Mariah covers her mouth with both hands.

Her eyes fill instantly.

Jenna squeals and hugs her from behind.

“Riah! You got it!”

Mariah nods, tears slipping down her cheeks.

“I… I really got it.”

Jenna wipes her face gently.

“How do you feel?”

Mariah exhales — long, trembling, honest.

“Like… something is pulling me home.”

Jenna smiles.

“Or someone.”

Mariah gives her a look.

“Don’t start.”

But she can’t hide the truth:

Jordan’s voice is still in her chest. His words still echoing. His presence still lingering.

And now?

They’re both going to be in Jamaica.

At the same time.

On the same island.

Under the same sky.

Mariah looks at the confirmation email again, fingers brushing the screen like it’s a prophecy.

“Jamaica… here I come.”

🌺 JENNA REALIZES SHE MIGHT NEED JAMAICA TOO

Mariah is still glowing from her flight confirmation, holding her phone like it’s a blessing. Jenna sits beside her, smiling, but there’s something behind her eyes — something soft, something tired, something shifting.

Mariah notices.

“You okay?”

Jenna forces a smile.

“Yeah… I’m happy for you.”

Mariah tilts her head.

“That’s not what I asked.”

Jenna exhales, long and shaky, like she’s been holding her breath for weeks.

She pulls the blanket tighter around her shoulders.

“Riah… when you got that confirmation… something hit me.”

Mariah turns fully toward her.

“What hit you?”

Jenna looks down at her hands.

“That I’ve been surviving. Not living. Not breathing. Just… holding on.”

Mariah’s face softens.

“Jen…”

Jenna shakes her head, eyes glistening.

“I didn’t realize how much I needed a break until I saw you get yours.”

Mariah reaches for her hand.

“You deserve one too.”

Jenna swallows hard.

“I think… I think I need Jamaica.”

Mariah’s eyebrows lift.

“Need?”

Jenna nods slowly.

“Yeah. Not want. Not maybe. Need.”

She wipes her cheek quickly, embarrassed.

“I need somewhere that isn’t here. Somewhere warm. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere that doesn’t remind me of… him.”

Mariah squeezes her hand.

“Jamaica can hold you. The Lane can hold you. I can hold you.”

Jenna lets out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.

“I don’t want to run away. I just… want to feel like myself again.”

Mariah smiles gently.

“Then come with me.”

Jenna looks up, eyes wide.

“You mean that?”

“Of course. You’re family.”

Jenna’s voice cracks.

“I haven’t felt like family in a long time.”

Mariah pulls her into a hug — slow, grounding, steady.

“Then let Jamaica remind you.”

Jenna closes her eyes, letting the words settle into her bones.

For the first time in weeks, her shoulders drop. Her breath deepens. Her heart steadies.

And she whispers:

“Okay. Maybe… maybe I’m going too.”

🌺 JENNA TELLS MARIAH SHE’S SCARED TO TRAVEL

Mariah is folding clothes on the bed, humming under her breath, still glowing from her flight confirmation. Jenna stands in the doorway, arms wrapped around herself, watching her.

Mariah looks up.

“You ready to book yours?”

Jenna hesitates.

“…Riah.”

Mariah pauses, sensing the shift.

“What’s wrong?”

Jenna steps inside, sits on the edge of the bed, fingers twisting the blanket.

Her voice is small — not weak, just honest.

“I’m scared.”

Mariah sits beside her immediately.

“Scared of what?”

Jenna exhales, long and shaky.

“Traveling. Flying. Leaving. All of it.”

Mariah softens.

“Jen… you’ve traveled before.”

Jenna nods.

“Yeah. But that was before… everything.”

She presses her palm to her chest.

“Before my nerves got bad. Before I started jumping at every sound. Before I felt like the world wasn’t safe anymore.”

Mariah’s eyes fill with understanding.

“You’re not scared of the plane. You’re scared of feeling alone in the air.”

Jenna’s voice cracks.

“Yes.”

💫 THE PART SHE’S BEEN HOLDING IN

Jenna wipes her cheek quickly, embarrassed.

“I don’t want to be a burden. I don’t want to slow you down. I don’t want to fall apart in the airport.”

Mariah takes her hand.

“Jen… listen to me. You’re not a burden. You’re healing.”

Jenna looks away.

“What if I panic? What if I freeze? What if I get there and I don’t feel better?”

Mariah squeezes her hand.

“Then I’ll be right there. On the plane. In the airport. On the Lane. Wherever you need me.”

Jenna’s eyes fill again.

“You’d stay with me?”

Mariah smiles softly.

“I’m not leaving you alone in this. If you come to Jamaica, you come with me.”

Jenna lets out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.

“I want to go… I just don’t want to go scared.”

Mariah leans her forehead against hers.

“Then we’ll go scared together. And brave will meet us on the other side.”

Jenna closes her eyes, letting the words settle into her bones.

For the first time in weeks, her shoulders drop. Her breath deepens. Her heart steadies.

And she whispers:

“Okay. Help me book it.”

🌬️ JENNA TRYING TO BOOK THE FLIGHT — AND PANICKING

Jenna sits at the table with her laptop open, fingers hovering over the keyboard like they weigh ten pounds each. Mariah is beside her, calm, steady, grounding — the opposite of what’s happening inside Jenna’s chest.

Jenna inhales sharply.

“Okay… okay. I can do this.”

Mariah nods gently.

“You can.”

Jenna clicks the airline website.

The loading wheel spins.

Her breath quickens.

Her knee starts bouncing.

“Why it loading so slow? Why it doing that? Oh God, what if the seat gone? What if I miss it? What if—”

Mariah places a hand on her arm.

“Jen. Breathe.”

Jenna tries — but the breath comes out shaky.

💓 THE PANIC RISING

The page finally loads.

One seat left.

Jenna’s eyes widen.

“Oh my God. Oh my God, Riah, it’s only one. What if I mess up? What if I type something wrong? What if the card declines? What if—”

Her voice cracks.

Her hands tremble.

She presses her palm to her chest.

“I can’t… I can’t breathe properly.”

Mariah moves closer, voice soft but firm.

“Look at me.”

Jenna tries, but her eyes dart back to the screen.

“Jen. Look at me.”

Jenna finally meets her gaze.

Mariah takes her hands.

“You’re safe. You’re not alone. We’re doing this together.”

Jenna nods, but tears gather.

“I don’t know why I’m so scared.”

Mariah squeezes her hands.

“Because you’ve been holding everything by yourself for too long.”

Jenna’s breath stutters.

🌺 THE BREAKTHROUGH

Mariah turns the laptop slightly toward herself.

“I’ll type. You tell me what to put.”

Jenna’s shoulders drop — just a little.

“Okay…”

Mariah enters her name.

Jenna whispers it like she’s afraid the computer will judge her.

Mariah enters her birthday.

Jenna wipes her cheek.

Mariah enters her card info.

Jenna’s breathing steadies.

Then Mariah pauses.

“You ready?”

Jenna closes her eyes.

One tear slips down.

“Yes. Press it.”

Mariah clicks Purchase.

The screen loads.

Jenna holds her breath.

Mariah holds her hand.

Then—

“Reservation Confirmed.”

Jenna gasps — a sound between a sob and a laugh.

She covers her mouth.

“I did it… Riah, I actually did it.”

Mariah pulls her into a hug.

“You did. And I’m proud of you.”

Jenna melts into her arms, trembling with relief.

“Thank you… for not letting me fall apart alone.”

Mariah kisses her forehead.

“You’re not alone anymore.”

✈️ MALIK & MAYA — THE RESERVATION MOMENT

Maya is on her couch, laptop open, legs tucked under her, hair in that soft bun she only wears when she’s comfortable. Malik is at his place, phone in hand, pacing like a man who pretending he not excited.

They’re on FaceTime.

Maya smiles.

“You ready fi book?”

Malik smirks.

“Mi been ready. Is you mi waiting pon.”

Maya rolls her eyes — but her cheeks warm.

“Okay, okay… let’s do it together.”

🌺 THE SOFTNESS BETWEEN THEM

They both open the airline page.

Maya bites her lip.

“You sure you want to come?”

Malik looks straight into the camera.

Voice low. Steady. Intentional.

“Maya… mi not letting you fly to Jamaica alone. Mi want to be there.”

Her breath catches — just a little.

“Okay.”

💻 THE BOOKING BEGINS

Maya scrolls.

“There’s a flight Thursday morning.”

Malik checks his screen.

“Mi see it. You want that one?”

Maya hesitates.

“It’s early.”

Malik grins.

“So mi pick you up early.”

She laughs.

“You not picking me up at 4 AM.”

“Watch mi.”

🔥 THE MOMENT THEY COMMIT

They both hover over the Purchase button.

Maya looks at him.

“On three?”

Malik nods.

“One…”

“Two…”

They both pause — smiling, nervous, excited.

“Three.”

CLICK.

Both screens load.

Both hearts race.

Then—

“Reservation Confirmed.”

Maya gasps softly.

Malik smiles slow, deep, warm.

“So… we really going Jamaica.”

Maya nods, eyes bright.

“Yeah. We are.”

Malik leans closer to the camera.

“Good. Because mi want to see where you come from. Mi want to see you… home.”

Maya’s whole chest softens.

“You will.”

🌴 THE FORESHADOWING

They sit there for a moment, just looking at each other through the screen — two people who didn’t plan this, didn’t expect this, but feel it anyway.

Malik whispers:

“Jamaica ago change everything.”

Maya smiles.

“Maybe that’s the point.”

📞 JENNA CALLS TOM — “I’m going to Jamaica for a while.”

Tom is sitting at the same kitchen table he’s been haunting for days, head in his hands, phone face‑down beside him. He looks like a man who hasn’t slept properly since the last time he saw her.

The phone buzzes.

He glances at the screen.

Jenna.

His whole body jerks upright.

He answers immediately.

“Jen? Jen, is you?”

Jenna is standing by her window, arms wrapped around herself, voice soft but steady.

“Hi, Tom.”

He exhales like he’s been underwater.

“Thank God… Jen, listen, mi been trying fi reach you. Mi—”

She cuts him gently.

“Tom… I’m not calling to argue.”

He freezes.

“…Okay. So… why you calling?”

Jenna swallows.

Her voice trembles, but she doesn’t break.

“I’m leaving.”

Tom sits up straighter.

“Leaving go weh?”

Jenna closes her eyes.

“Jamaica.”

Silence.

Not the peaceful kind — the kind where a man’s whole world tilts.

“Jamaica? For what? For how long?”

Jenna breathes in slow.

“For a while.”

Tom’s voice cracks.

“Jen… what you mean ‘a while’? You can’t just— you can’t just leave the country.”

Jenna’s voice softens, but stays firm.

“I need space, Tom. I need rest. I need to feel safe again.”

Tom presses his palm to his forehead.

“Safe? Jen, mi never— mi never wanted you fi feel unsafe.”

Jenna’s eyes glisten.

“I know. But wanting and doing are two different things.”

Tom goes quiet — the kind of quiet that comes from guilt and realization.

💔 THE PART THAT BREAKS HIM

Tom whispers:

“So… you really going?”

Jenna nods, even though he can’t see it.

“Yes.”

He swallows hard.

“And… you coming back?”

Jenna hesitates — not because she doesn’t know, but because she doesn’t want to lie.

“I don’t know yet.”

Tom’s breath stutters.

“Jen… please…”

Jenna wipes her cheek.

“Tom… I’m not running from you. I’m running toward myself.”

He covers his face.

“Mi lose you…”

Jenna’s voice softens.

“You didn’t lose me. I’m just choosing me.”

🌺 THE CLOSING MOMENT

Tom whispers:

“When you leaving?”

“Soon.”

“Can… can mi see you before you go?”

Jenna closes her eyes.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Tom’s voice breaks completely.

“Jen… please don’t go without letting mi fix it.”

Jenna shakes her head.

“Some things you can’t fix for me. I have to fix them myself.”

A long silence.

Then Jenna whispers:

“Goodbye, Tom.”

Tom whispers back, voice shattered:

“Safe travels, Jen.”

She hangs up.

Tom stays there, phone pressed to his forehead, breathing like a man who just realized the woman he took for granted is about to cross an ocean to find the peace he couldn’t give her.

💔 TOM BREAKING DOWN AFTER THE CALL

The moment Jenna hangs up, Tom stays frozen — phone still pressed to his ear, like if he doesn’t move, the call didn’t really end.

Then the silence hits him.

Heavy. Thick. Final.

He lowers the phone slowly, places it on the table, and stares at it like it betrayed him.

His chest rises once. Twice. Then the breath leaves him in a shaky exhale.

“Jamaica… she really going Jamaica…”

He leans forward, elbows on the table, hands gripping his hair.

His voice cracks.

“For a while… she said for a while…”

He tries to swallow, but his throat tightens.

He stands up suddenly — pacing, pacing, pacing — like he can outrun the truth.

“She not coming back. She not coming back to me.”

His voice breaks on the last word.

He stops pacing. His knees buckle. He sits on the floor, back against the cabinet, hands covering his face.

And that’s when it hits him — the kind of cry a man only lets out when he’s alone.

Not loud. Not wild. Just broken.

A soft, strangled sound escapes him.

“Mi lose her… mi really lose her…”

He presses his forehead to his knees.

His wedding ring glints in the kitchen light — a reminder of everything he thought was permanent.

He whispers into the quiet:

“Jen… mi sorry… mi so sorry…”

But the apology has nowhere to go.

She’s already packing. Already healing. Already choosing herself.

And Tom?

He’s sitting on the cold kitchen floor, realizing too late that love doesn’t wait for a man to get his act together.

🌊 TOM DECIDES HE HAS TO GET TO JAMAICA

Tom is still on the kitchen floor, eyes red, chest tight, breathing uneven. The silence in the house feels like it’s pressing on him — like the walls know she’s gone.

He wipes his face with the back of his hand.

Then he whispers to himself:

“Mi can’t let her go like that.”

He stands up slowly, legs shaky, but something different in his eyes — not hope, not confidence… determination born from fear.

He grabs his phone again, scrolling through old pictures of Jenna — smiling, laughing, leaning into him like he was her safe place.

His voice cracks.

“Mi not losing you without fighting.”

He paces the kitchen.

Back and forth. Back and forth. Mind racing.

“She going Jamaica… She going fi heal… She going fi find peace…”

He stops.

“…and mi not even there.”

That thought hits him like a punch.

He grabs his keys.

Then stops.

“Flights… Flights expensive… Flights full…”

He checks anyway.

Every flight is booked.

Every price is insane.

He slams the phone down.

“No. No. Mi haffi reach her.”

He starts thinking wild.

Messy.

Desperate.

“Boat? Somebody must can carry mi. People reach Jamaica all the time from Cuba…”

He runs his hands through his hair.

“Mi will find a way. Mi going Jamaica. Mi going fi talk to her face to face.”

His voice drops to a whisper.

“Mi not letting the last thing she hear from me be pain.”

He grabs his wallet, his passport, a duffel bag he barely packs — just throws in clothes, chargers, anything he can reach.

His hands shake the whole time.

He looks around the house one last time.

The life he built with her.

The life falling apart.

He whispers:

“Jen… wait fi mi.”

Then he walks out the door.

Not knowing how he’ll get there. Not knowing who he’ll meet. Not knowing what Jamaica will bring.

Only knowing one thing:

He has to try.

The plane touches down in Havana, and Tom steps out like a man who expected the universe to greet him with instructions.

It doesn’t.

The heat hits him first — thick, humid, wrapping around him like a warning.

He wipes his forehead.

“Okay… okay… mi reach. Now what?”

He looks around the airport.

Everyone else knows where they’re going.

Families hugging. Taxi drivers shouting. Tourists dragging suitcases.

Tom?

He standing in the middle of the walkway with a duffel bag and a broken heart.

He pulls out his phone.

No service.

He tries again.

Still no service.

He mutters:

“Great. Perfect. Beautiful.”

🧳 THE MAN WITH NO PLAN

He walks outside, scanning the signs like one of them will magically say:

“Boat to Jamaica → This Way, Heartbroken Man.”

Nothing.

A taxi driver approaches him.

“Taxi?”

Tom shakes his head.

“No, mi… mi need a boat.”

The driver blinks.

“A boat?”

“Yes. To Jamaica.”

The driver laughs so hard he has to hold his stomach.

Tom doesn’t find it funny.

“Mi serious.”

The driver wipes his eyes.

“Señor… Jamaica is not around the corner.”

Tom sighs.

“Mi know that. But mi have to reach.”

The driver studies him — the messy hair, the tired eyes, the desperation.

“You look like a man running from something.”

Tom shakes his head.

“Mi running toward something.”

🌊 THE SEARCH BEGINS

He wanders through the streets, asking random people:

“Boat? Jamaica? Anybody?”

Most ignore him. Some laugh. One old man tells him:

“You need fisherman. Not taxi.”

Tom nods like that’s the first useful thing he’s heard all day.

He heads toward the coast.

The smell of saltwater hits him.

Boats bob in the harbor — small, worn, nothing that looks like it should cross an ocean.

Tom whispers:

“Lord… mi really doing this.”

He approaches a fisherman cleaning nets.

“Sir… mi need to get to Jamaica.”

The fisherman looks up slowly.

“Why?”

Tom hesitates.

Then says the truth.

“A woman.”

The fisherman snorts.

“Always a woman.”

He looks Tom up and down.

“You have money?”

Tom pulls out what he has — not much.

The fisherman shrugs.

“Maybe enough for trouble.”

Tom’s heart jumps.

“So… you can take me?”

The fisherman shakes his head.

“No. But I know someone crazy enough.”

Tom closes his eyes in relief.

“Thank you… thank you.”

The fisherman points down the dock.

“Look for the man with the red boat. If he agrees… pray.”

Tom nods.

“Mi been praying.

🌊 TOM MEETS THE FISHERMAN WITH THE RED BOAT

The dock is quiet except for the slap of waves and the creak of old wood. Tom walks slowly, duffel bag over his shoulder, eyes scanning for anything red.

Then he sees it.

A small, beat‑up fishing boat with peeling red paint, tied loosely to a post. A man sits inside, fixing a motor that looks older than Tom’s marriage.

Tom approaches cautiously.

“Excuse me… sir?”

The fisherman doesn’t look up.

“If you’re selling something, no.”

Tom shakes his head.

“Mi not selling. Mi need help.”

The fisherman snorts.

“Everyone who comes to me needs help.”

Tom steps closer.

“Mi need to get to Jamaica.”

The fisherman finally looks up — slow, deliberate — eyes sharp, assessing.

“Jamaica?”

“Yes.”

The fisherman wipes his hands on a rag.

“Why?”

Tom hesitates, then tells the truth.

“A woman.”

The fisherman sighs like he’s heard this story a thousand times.

“Always a woman.”

He gestures at the boat.

“You see this?”

Tom nods.

“This is not a cruise ship. This is not safe. This is not smart.”

Tom’s voice cracks.

“Mi don’t care.”

The fisherman studies him — the desperation, the exhaustion, the ring on his finger.

“You look like a man who already lost something.”

Tom swallows.

“Mi trying fi get it back.”

A long silence.

The fisherman leans back, thinking.

“The sea is rough this week.”

“Mi can handle rough.”

“The coast guard patrols heavy.”

“Mi will hide.”

“You could die.”

Tom’s voice drops to a whisper.

“Mi already dying here.”

That’s the line that changes everything.

The fisherman sighs deeply, stands, and steps onto the dock.

“If I take you… you listen to me. You move when I say move. You hide when I say hide. You don’t panic.”

Tom nods quickly.

“Mi won’t.”

The fisherman points at the boat.

“We leave before sunrise.”

Tom exhales — relief, fear, adrenaline all tangled together.

“Thank you… thank you so much.”

The fisherman shakes his head.

“Don’t thank me yet. Thank me when you touch Jamaican sand.”

Tom looks out at the dark water.

It looks endless. Dangerous. Unforgiving.

But somewhere across that ocean… Jenna is breathing easier.

And that’s enough.

Mariah and Jenna

✈️ THE OTHERS MAKING THEIR WAY TO THE AIRPORT

🌺 1. Mariah & Jenna — The Soft, Nervous Duo

Mariah is double‑checking her passport for the third time. Jenna is sitting on the couch, knees pulled up, hoodie on, hands shaking just a little.

Mariah kneels in front of her.

“You ready?”

Jenna nods, even though her eyes say no.

“Yeah… let’s go before

“Yeah… let’s go before I change my mind.”

Mariah squeezes her hand.

“We’re doing this together.”

They step outside into the Miami night — warm, humid, and full of possibility.

A rideshare pulls up.

Jenna whispers:

“Jamaica… wow.”

Mariah smiles.

“Home.”

They get in.

The car pulls off.

Jenna exhales slowly, watching the city lights blur past.

🔥 2. Malik & Maya — The Flirty, Calm‑But‑Not‑Calm Pair

Malik pulls up to Maya’s place at 4:07 AM, exactly like he said he would.

She steps outside with her suitcase, hair in a bun, looking too good for that hour.

Malik grins.

“Mi tell you mi would pick you up.”

Maya rolls her eyes but blushes.

“You’re ridiculous.”

“And you’re beautiful.”

She tries not to smile.

They load the suitcase.

As they drive, Maya glances at him.

“You nervous?”

Malik shrugs.

“A likkle. But mi more excited fi see where you come from.”

Maya’s heart does a small, traitorous flip.

“You’ll see.”

🌴 3. Jordan — The Man With Too Many Thoughts

Jordan is already in the Uber, hood up, headphones in, staring out the window like he’s preparing for war.

He keeps replaying Mariah’s voice in his head.

“Thank you for rescuing me…”

He rubs his jaw, trying to steady himself.

The driver glances at him.

“You going on vacation?”

Jordan shakes his head.

“Something like that.”

His phone buzzes — Malik:

“On the way. You?”

Jordan texts back:

“Yeah. Let’s go.”

But inside?

He’s not ready.

Not for Mariah. Not for the Lane. Not for the truth waiting for him in Jamaica.

🌅 4. The Airport — Where All Their Paths Will Cross

The Miami airport is already buzzing — early flights, sleepy travelers, the smell of coffee and anticipation.

Mariah & Jenna arrive first.

Jenna clutches her bag like a lifeline.

Mariah whispers:

“You’re doing amazing.”

Then Malik & Maya walk in — laughing softly about something, looking like a couple even though they’re not.

Mariah raises an eyebrow.

Jenna whispers:

“Oh… they’re cute.”

Mariah smirks.

“Too cute.”

Then Jordan arrives.

He sees Mariah.

She sees him.

The air shifts.

Jenna feels it. Maya feels it. Malik definitely feels it.

Jordan walks over slowly.

“You made it.”

Mariah nods.

“Yeah… I did.”

Their eyes hold a little too long.

Malik leans to Maya.

“This trip ago be messy.”

Maya whispers back:

“Beautifully messy.”

✈️ THE AIRPORT INTERACTIONS BEFORE BOARDING

🌺 Mariah & Jenna — The Soft, Protective Bubble

Mariah is holding Jenna’s hand as they walk toward security. Jenna’s eyes are darting everywhere — the crowds, the announcements, the bright lights.

Mariah leans in.

“Stay with me. Just breathe.”

Jenna nods, squeezing her hand.

A TSA agent waves them forward.

Jenna whispers:

“I feel like everyone is watching me.”

Mariah smiles gently.

“Nobody watching you. And even if they were… you’re safe.”

Jenna exhales, shoulders dropping just a little.

🔥 Malik & Maya — The Flirty Chaos

Malik and Maya roll up behind them in the security line.

Maya nudges him.

“You packed light.”

Malik smirks.

“Mi only need two things.”

“Oh yeah? What’s that?”

He looks her dead in the eyes.

“Clothes… and you.”

Maya’s whole face warms.

“Behave.”

“Mi trying.”

He’s not trying.

At all.

They’re laughing quietly, bumping shoulders, looking like a couple even though they’re still pretending they’re not.

🌫️ Jordan — The Man Fighting His Own Thoughts

Jordan arrives at the line and sees Mariah ahead.

His breath catches.

He wasn’t ready to see her this close.

Mariah turns, meets his eyes.

A soft smile.

“Hey.”

Jordan nods.

“Hey.”

But the way he says it? Low. Warm. Like he’s been waiting to say it.

Jenna watches the exchange and whispers to Maya:

“Oh… they’re in trouble.”

Maya whispers back:

“Big trouble.”

Malik overhears.

“Mi tell unnu already — this trip ago be messy.”

Jordan shoots him a look.

“Shut up.”

Malik grins.

🧳 Security Line Shenanigans

Mariah takes off her shoes.

Jordan tries not to stare.

Fails.

Maya notices and nudges Malik.

“Look at him.”

Malik whispers:

“The man down bad.”

Jenna is trying to take off her hoodie but gets stuck halfway, arms flailing.

Mariah helps her.

“Jen, relax. You’re okay.”

Jenna laughs nervously.

“I swear airports make me stupid.”

Jordan steps closer, voice gentle.

“You’re doing fine.”

Jenna freezes.

Jordan never talks soft.

Mariah looks at him — surprised, touched.

He looks away quickly.

🌴 At the Gate — The Vibes Shift

They reach the gate together.

The sun is rising outside the big windows, painting everything gold.

Mariah sits beside Jenna.

Maya sits beside Malik.

Jordan stands for a moment, unsure where to go.

Mariah pats the seat next to her.

“Sit.”

Jordan sits.

Too close.

Their arms brush.

Neither moves.

Jenna watches them, whispering to Maya:

“They’re not even trying to hide it.”

Maya smiles.

“They don’t know how.”

Malik leans back, arms crossed.

“Mi hope Jamaica ready for this crew.”

Jordan mutters:

“Mi hope Jamaica ready for me.”

Mariah glances at him.

“Why you say that?”

Jordan looks out the window.

“Because mi not the same man who left.”

Mariah’s breath catches.

She wasn’t expecting that.

✈️ BOARDING THE PLANE

🌺 “Group 3, now boarding for Montego Bay.”

The announcement echoes through the gate.

Jenna jumps a little.

Mariah squeezes her hand.

“That’s us.”

Jenna nods, breathing slow, trying to keep her chest from tightening.

Malik stands, stretching like he’s about to run a race.

Maya rolls her eyes.

“You dramatic.”

“Mi excited.”

“You still dramatic.”

Jordan stands last — slow, steady, eyes flicking to Mariah like he’s checking if she’s really going.

She is.

And that alone shakes him.

🧳 THE WALK DOWN THE JET BRIDGE

Mariah and Jenna go first.

Jenna whispers:

“I feel like I’m walking into a new life.”

Mariah smiles.

“You are.”

Behind them, Malik and Maya walk shoulder‑to‑shoulder.

Maya bumps him.

“You nervous?”

Malik smirks.

“Only about sitting next to you.”

She blushes.

Jordan walks alone, hands in pockets, jaw tight.

He’s not scared of flying.

He’s scared of seeing Mariah in Jamaica — where everything is real, where everything started, where everything could change.

✈️ INSIDE THE PLANE

Mariah & Jenna find their seats first.

Jenna sits by the window.

Mariah sits beside her.

Jenna grips the armrest.

“Tell me when we’re in the air.”

Mariah laughs softly.

“You’ll know.”

Malik & Maya end up across the aisle.

Maya sits by the window.

Malik sits beside her, knees brushing.

He grins.

“Look at that — fate put us together.”

Maya shakes her head.

“Fate didn’t do that. You switched seats with that old lady.”

Malik shrugs.

“Same thing.”

Jordan walks down the aisle… and sees Mariah.

Their eyes meet.

She gives a small smile.

He hesitates.

Then the flight attendant gestures.

“Sir, your seat is right here.”

Right behind her.

Jordan sits.

Close enough to hear her laugh. Close enough to smell her perfume. Close enough to remember everything he tried to forget.

He leans forward slightly.

“You good?”

Mariah turns, surprised by the softness in his voice.

“Yeah… you?”

Jordan nods.

“Ask mi again when we land.”

🛫 THE MOMENT BEFORE TAKEOFF

The engines hum.

The lights dim.

Jenna’s breathing quickens.

Mariah takes her hand.

“Look at me. Not the window.”

Jenna nods, eyes locked on her.

Malik leans across the aisle.

“Jen, you good?”

She forces a smile.

“Trying.”

Maya reaches over and touches her arm.

“You’re safe. We’re all here.”

Jordan closes his eyes, listening to all of them — this strange little Miami family heading into the unknown.

🌅 THE TAKEOFF

The plane accelerates.

Jenna squeezes Mariah’s hand so tight she might cut off circulation.

Mariah whispers:

“You’re okay. You’re okay. You’re okay.”

Malik grins like a child.

Maya laughs at him.

Jordan opens his eyes and looks at the back of Mariah’s head — the curls, the softness, the familiarity.

He whispers to himself:

“Jamaica… here we come.”

The wheels lift.

The plane rises.

And below them, Miami shrinks — leaving heartbreak, confusion, and old versions of themselves behind.

Tom

Tom is slumped on a wooden bench near the fisherman’s shack, duffel bag under his head like a pillow. The night air is warm, sticky, and full of sounds he doesn’t recognize — waves slapping the dock, distant voices, a dog barking somewhere far off.

Tom is slumped on a wooden bench near the fisherman’s shack, duffel bag under his head like a pillow. The night air is warm, sticky, and full of sounds he doesn’t recognize — waves slapping the dock, distant voices, a dog barking somewhere far off.

He’s not really resting. He’s drifting.

His face is tight even in sleep. His fingers twitch like he’s reaching for something he can’t hold anymore.

A soft groan escapes him.

“Jen…”

His brow furrows.

His breathing stutters.

He’s dreaming — not the sweet kind.

🌫️ THE DREAM

In the dream, he’s back in their kitchen. Jenna is standing by the door with her suitcase.

He reaches for her.

She steps back.

“I need space, Tom.”

He tries to speak, but no sound comes out.

She turns the doorknob.

He tries to move toward her, but his feet won’t lift — like he’s stuck in cement.

She opens the door.

Sunlight pours in.

She steps out.

The door closes.

And locks.

Tom bangs on it.

“Jen! Jen, please!”

But the door doesn’t open.

Not even a crack.

🌊 BACK TO REALITY — HE WAKES UP

Tom jolts awake, chest heaving, sweat on his forehead.

He sits up fast, looking around like he expects to see her.

But it’s just the dock. The fisherman’s shack. The red boat rocking gently in the dark.

He wipes his face with both hands.

“God… mi can’t lose her.”

He stands, pacing the dock in the dim light.

The fisherman steps out of the shack, cigarette glowing.

“You sleep?”

Tom shakes his head.

“Not really.”

The fisherman nods like he expected that.

“Boat leaves in one hour.”

Tom swallows hard.

“Okay.”

The fisherman studies him.

“You sure you want to do this?”

Tom looks out at the black ocean — endless, dangerous, unforgiving.

Then he whispers:

“Mi sure about her.”

The fisherman sighs.

“Then get ready. The sea don’t care about your heart.”

Tom nods.

But his eyes stay fixed on the horizon — the direction Jenna is flying toward right now, somewhere above the clouds, moving farther from him with every passing minute.

🌅 TOM BOARDS THE RED BOAT BEFORE SUNRISE

The dock is silent except for the soft slap of water and the creak of ropes pulling against wood. The sky is still black, but the horizon is flirting with purple — that pre‑sunrise glow that feels like a held breath.

Tom stands there, duffel bag over his shoulder, staring at the red boat.

It’s smaller than he imagined. Older. Worn.

The fisherman — a man named Luis, with one gold tooth and zero patience — is already loading supplies.

Luis glances at Tom.

“You ready?”

Tom nods, even though his stomach is doing flips.

“Mi ready.”

Luis snorts.

“No you’re not. But you’re here. That’s enough.”

🧳 THE MOMENT OF COMMITMENT

Tom steps onto the boat.

It rocks under his weight.

He grips the side instinctively.

Luis watches him.

“You ever been on the sea?”

Tom shakes his head.

“Only on a cruise.”

Luis laughs.

“This ain’t no cruise, Romeo.”

Tom sets down his bag, looks out at the dark water.

“Mi know.”

Luis starts the motor — a loud, coughing thing that sounds like it’s been through war.

Tom sits near the front, eyes locked on the horizon.

Luis mutters:

“You chasing love?”

Tom nods.

“She left. Mi trying fi reach her.”

Luis shrugs.

“Then hold on. The sea don’t care about your heart.”

🌊 PUSHING OFF INTO THE DARK

The boat pulls away from the dock.

Tom watches Cuba shrink behind him — the lights, the land, the last piece of safety.

Ahead?

Nothing but water.

He grips the side tighter.

Luis hums a tune — something old, something Caribbean.

Tom closes his eyes.

He sees Jenna. Her face. Her voice. Her goodbye.

He whispers:

“Mi coming, Jen. Mi coming.”

And the boat keeps moving — into the dark, into the unknown, into the kind of journey that changes a man forever.

🌺 THE MIAMI CREW LANDS IN JAMAICA — BEFORE SUNRISE

The plane touches down in Montego Bay just after 5:00 AM. Outside, the sky is still dark, but the horizon is waking — soft pinks, sleepy golds, and that first whisper of Caribbean light stretching over the water.

Inside the cabin, the crew stirs one by one.

✨ Jenna

Jenna blinks awake, eyes heavy, heart thudding. She looks out the window and gasps softly.

“It’s… beautiful.”

Mariah smiles beside her.

“Welcome to Jamaica, baby girl.”

Jenna presses her hand to the glass, watching the palm trees sway in the predawn breeze.

✨ Mariah

Mariah sits up straighter, shoulders relaxing the moment the wheels hit the runway. Her whole spirit shifts — like something inside her recognizes home before she even steps outside.

She whispers to herself:

“Mi back.”

Jordan hears it. It hits him harder than he expects.

✨ Jordan

Jordan stretches, jaw tight, pretending he’s not watching Mariah breathe. But he is.

He looks out the window, taking in the island.

“So this is where everything started.”

His voice is low, almost reverent.

✨ Maya

Maya wakes up with her head tilted toward Malik’s shoulder — not touching, but close enough that he notices.

She sits up quickly.

“We here?”

Malik grins.

“We here.”

Her eyes widen as she sees the sunrise forming.

“Oh my God… it’s gorgeous.”

✨ Malik

Malik is practically vibrating with excitement.

“Mi love this place, man. Wait till unnu see the Lane.”

He looks at Maya again — softer this time.

“You going love it.”

She blushes.

🛬 THE WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT

They step off the plane into warm, humid air that feels like a welcome.

Jenna inhales deeply.

“It smells like… life.”

Mariah laughs.

“That’s the salt, the breeze, and the mango trees.”

Jordan looks around, taking in every detail — the accents, the colors, the rhythm.

Maya clutches her bag, eyes wide.

“This place feels alive.”

Malik nods.

“It is.”

🌴 OUTSIDE — THE FIRST LIGHT OF MORNING

They push through the sliding doors and step into the early morning glow.

The sun is just beginning to rise — a soft gold spilling over the hills, painting everything warm and sacred.

Jenna stops.

She closes her eyes.

She breathes.

And for the first time in months… she feels like she’s not running. She’s arriving.

Mariah watches her.

“You good?”

Jenna opens her eyes, tears glistening.

“I think… I think I’m home.”

Malik looks at Maya. Jordan looks at Mariah. Mariah looks at the island.

And the island? It looks right back at them — like it’s been waiting.

🌅 THE DRIVE BEGINS

The sun is just rising, painting the sky peach and gold.

Jenna presses her forehead to the window.

“It’s so beautiful…”

Mariah smiles.

“Wait till you see the Lane.”

The driver glances at them in the mirror.

“Unnu going Lane? Oh Lord… buckle up.”

Malik laughs.

“Why you say it like that?”

The driver smirks.

“Because the Lane don’t sleep. And the Lane don’t behave.”

🚧 TAFARI BOULEVARD — THE FIRST CHAOS

As soon as they turn onto Tafari Blvd, they meet a goat standing dead center in the road.

Just… staring.

Jenna gasps.

“Is that—”

Mariah: “Yes. A goat.”

Maya: “Why he looking at us like that?”

Driver: “Him deciding if he feel like moving.”

Malik leans forward.

“Big man, move!”

The goat does not move.

Jordan mutters:

“This is madness.”

Finally the goat strolls off the road like he owns the boulevard.

The shuttle continues.

🛣️ AMARA HIGHWAY — THE DRAMA

They turn onto Amara Highway — a narrow, winding road lined with mango trees.

The driver speeds up.

Jenna grips the seat.

“Sir— sir— SIR—”

Driver: “Relax, sweetheart. Mi drive this road since before unnu born.”

A mango falls on the windshield with a loud THUMP.

Jenna screams. Mariah bursts out laughing. Maya grabs Malik’s arm. Jordan hits his head on the window.

Driver: “Is mango season. The trees greeting unnu.”

Malik: “That mango nearly kill we.”

Driver: “Better mango than pothole.”

They hit a pothole.

Everyone bounces.

Jordan: “Bro.”

Driver: “See? Mi warn unnu.”

🌴 THE LANE — OPENING SHOT

As they turn into the Lane, the energy shifts.

Kids are already outside playing. Aunties are sweeping their verandahs. Music is playing somewhere — old reggae, soft and warm.

The Lane looks alive. Like it’s breathing.

Mariah’s eyes soften.

“Home.”

Jenna whispers:

“Wow…”

Maya leans forward, taking it all in.

“This place… it feels like a movie.”

Malik grins.

“Welcome to the Lane.”

Jordan looks around, jaw tight, heart beating faster than he wants to admit.

“So this is where everything started.”

The shuttle driver parks.

“Unnu reach. Good luck.”

Mariah: “Why you say it like that?”

Driver: “Because the Lane watching already.”

They look out the window.

And sure enough…

Auntie Patsy, Miss Yvonne, and three kids are staring at the shuttle like it’s the season premiere of their favorite show.

Tom and Louis

🌊 THE STORM HITS — HALFWAY TO JAMAICA

The sky had been calm for hours — a soft gray, the kind that makes the sea look like brushed metal. Tom sat near the bow, gripping the side, watching the horizon like it held Jenna’s face.

Luis, the fisherman, kept glancing at the clouds.

“Wind changing.”

Tom looked up.

“That bad?”

Luis didn’t answer. He didn’t have to.

The first gust hit them like a slap.

The boat rocked hard.

Tom grabbed the edge.

“Whoa—”

Luis barked:

“Sit low! Hold on!”

⚡ THE SKY BREAKS OPEN

The clouds rolled in fast — too fast — swallowing the early morning light. The sea darkened. The wind howled.

Then the rain came.

Not soft. Not gentle.

Sheets.   Like the sky was dumping buckets straight onto them.

Tom’s shirt clung to his skin. His hair plastered to his forehead. His heart pounding like a drum.

“Luis! What do we do?”

Luis fought the wheel.

“We ride it! Don’t stand up! Don’t move unless mi tell you!”

A wave slammed the side of the boat, spraying them with saltwater.

Tom coughed, choking.

“Jesus—”

Luis shouted over the wind:

“The sea don’t care about Jesus today!”

🌩️ THE WAVES RISE

Another wave hit — bigger, angrier — lifting the boat like a toy.

Tom’s stomach dropped.

He grabbed the side with both hands.

“Luis! We’re gonna flip!”

“Not if you LISTEN!”

The boat crashed back down, wood groaning, motor sputtering.

Tom’s knuckles turned white.

He thought of Jenna. Her smile. Her voice. Her leaving.

He whispered through clenched teeth:

“Mi not dying before mi reach you.”

🌬️ THE WORST OF IT

The wind screamed. The rain blurred everything. The horizon disappeared.

Luis yelled:

“TOM! DOWN!”

Tom ducked just as a wave crashed over the bow, drenching him, nearly knocking him backward.

He gasped for air.

Luis fought the wheel like he was wrestling a beast.

“If the motor cut, we done!”

Tom swallowed hard.

“Can I help?”

Luis shook his head.

“Just pray.”

Tom closed his eyes.

Not to God. Not to the sea.

To Jenna.

“Mi coming. Mi swear mi coming.”

🌤️ A BREAK IN THE CHAOS

Just when it felt like the storm would swallow them whole… the rain softened. The wind eased. The waves calmed.

Luis exhaled shakily.

“We not safe yet… but we alive.”

Tom wiped his face, chest heaving.

“That… that was insane.”

Luis nodded.

“The sea test you. If you still here… maybe you deserve where you going.”

Tom looked out at the horizon — gray, endless, but clearing.

Somewhere ahead… Jenna was stepping onto Jamaican soil.

And he was still coming.

🌫️ TOM & LUIS — AFTER THE STORM

The rain has eased. The waves have calmed. But the boat is still rocking gently, like it’s catching its breath.

Tom is slumped near the bow, soaked, shivering, staring at the horizon like it owes him answers.

Luis is at the stern, one hand on the motor, the other wiping water from his face.

Neither speaks for a long time.

Just breathing.

Just surviving.

🧍🏽‍♂️ Luis Breaks the Silence

“You still want Jamaica?”

Tom nods slowly.

“Mi still want her.”

Luis snorts.

“Then you mad.”

Tom looks at him.

“Mi know.”

Luis studies him — the soaked clothes, the clenched jaw, the wedding ring still shining through the salt.

“You ever been through a storm like that?”

Tom shakes his head.

“Not on water.”

Luis leans back.

“Storms on land feel different. You can run. You can hide. Out here? You either ride it… or drown.”

Tom swallows hard.

“Mi thought we were done.”

Luis nods.

“We almost were.”

🧠 Tom Opens Up

Tom rubs his face, voice low.

“She left. Said she needed space. Said she couldn’t feel safe with me anymore.”

Luis doesn’t flinch.

“So you chasing her across the sea?”

“Mi chasing the man mi used to be.”

Luis exhales.

“That man gone.”

Tom looks up, startled.

Luis continues.

“Storms don’t let you stay the same. You either break… or become something new.”

Tom stares at him.

“What if she don’t want the new version?”

Luis shrugs.

“Then you still find land. Still find peace. But at least you know you tried.”

🌤️ The Horizon Clears

The clouds begin to part. A sliver of sunlight kisses the waves.

Luis adjusts the motor.

“We close now. Maybe two hours.”

Tom nods.

“Thank you.”

Luis doesn’t look at him.

“Don’t thank me yet. The coast guard still out here, they don’t take kindly to strangers.”

Tom grips the side of the boat.

“Mi not a stranger to her.”

Luis finally looks at him.

“Then hold that truth tight. Because when you reach… you going need it.”

🚨 THE COAST GUARD SPOTS THEM

Luis squints at the horizon.

“Boat coming.”

Tom sits up.

“What kind?”

Luis doesn’t answer right away.

He adjusts the motor, eyes narrowing.

“White hull. Blue stripe. Fast.”

Tom’s stomach drops.

“Coast guard?”

Luis nods.

“Most likely.”

🛥️ THE APPROACH

The boat gets closer — slicing through the water like it’s chasing something.

Luis mutters:

“They don’t usually patrol this early.”

Tom grips the side.

“What do we do?”

Luis checks the motor.

“We don’t run. We don’t lie. We don’t panic.”

Tom nods, heart racing.

“What if they turn us back?”

Luis looks at him.

“Then you swim.”

📣 THE INTERROGATION

The coast guard boat pulls alongside — two officers in dark uniforms, one with a clipboard, the other with a radio.

The one with the clipboard speaks first.

“Where you coming from?”

Luis: “Cuba.”

“Where you heading?”

Luis: “Jamaica.”

The officer looks at Tom.

“You got papers?”

Tom hesitates.

“I… I have ID. Passport. No visa.”

The officer frowns.

“You know this route not legal, right?”

Tom nods.

“Mi not running drugs. Mi not hiding. Mi just trying fi reach someone.”

The officer studies him.

“Who?”

Tom swallows.

“Mi wife.”

⚖️ THE DECISION

The officer steps back, confers with the other.

Luis whispers:

“Don’t say anything else. Let them decide.”

Tom nods, jaw clenched.

The officer returns.

“You’re lucky. We got bigger problems today.”

He tosses a waterproof tag into the boat.

“This says we saw you. If you reach Jamaica and they ask, show it.”

Luis nods.

“Respect.”

The coast guard boat speeds off.

Tom exhales — long, shaky, grateful.

“Mi thought we were done.”

Luis smirks.

“We still might be. But not today.”

🌅 TOM SEES THE JAMAICAN SHORELINE

The sea has calmed into long, rolling breaths. The sky is clearing — streaks of gold breaking through the last of the storm clouds. Luis is steering quietly, eyes forward, hands steady.

Tom sits up, wiping saltwater from his face.

Luis nods toward the horizon.

“Look.”

Tom turns.

And there it is.

🌴 THE FIRST GLIMPSE

At first it’s just a shadow — a dark line between sea and sky.

Then the light shifts.

And the island reveals itself.

Green. Endless. Alive.

Palm trees rising like silhouettes. Hills rolling soft and ancient. The coastline stretching wide, like open arms.

Tom’s breath catches.

His voice cracks.

“That’s… Jamaica?”

Luis smiles — small, knowing.

“Welcome.”

🌤️ THE SUN BREAKS THROUGH

A beam of sunlight hits the water, turning it gold. The waves shimmer. The air warms.

Tom feels something loosen in his chest — something tight, something scared, something he’s been carrying since Jenna walked out the door.

He whispers:

“Mi reach.”

Luis glances at him.

“Not yet. But close enough to feel it.”

Tom nods, eyes locked on the shoreline.

“She’s here.”

Luis shrugs.

“Maybe. Maybe not.”

Tom doesn’t look away.

“Mi know she is.”

🌊 THE FINAL APPROACH

The boat cuts through the calmer water, moving steadily toward land.

Tom grips the side — not from fear this time, but from urgency.

Every wave brings him closer.

Every breath feels heavier.

Luis says quietly:

“When you step on that sand… you not the same man who left home.”

Tom nods.

“Good.”

The shoreline grows clearer — coconut trees, fishing boats, a small dock, smoke rising from early morning fires.

Jamaica is waking up.

And Tom is arriving.

🌴 TOM STEPPING ONTO JAMAICAN SOIL

The red boat glides toward the small fishing dock, the water calmer now, shimmering under the early morning sun. The storm is behind them. The coast guard is behind them. Fear is behind him.

Ahead?

Jamaica.

Luis slows the motor, guiding the boat in with practiced ease.

“This is it.”

Tom stands — legs shaky, clothes still damp, heart pounding like it’s trying to break free from his chest.

He grips the side of the boat.

The dock is simple — weathered wood, a few ropes, a bucket, a pair of sandals someone left behind. But to Tom?

It looks like destiny.

🧍‍♂️ THE FIRST STEP

Luis steadies the boat.

“Go on.”

Tom hesitates.

Not because he’s scared.

Because he knows this step changes everything.

He lifts one foot… then the other… and steps onto the dock.

The wood creaks under him.

The breeze hits his face — warm, salty, familiar in a way he can’t explain.

He whispers:

“Jamaica.”

His voice cracks.

He kneels for a moment, hand pressed to the dock, breathing hard.

Not from exhaustion.

From relief.

From disbelief.

From love.

🌤️ THE ISLAND GREETS HIM

A fisherman on the shore looks up from mending his net.

“Mawnin’, boss.”

Tom nods, still catching his breath.

“Morning.”

The man eyes him — soaked clothes, tired eyes, wedding ring glinting.

“Rough sea?”

Tom nods.

“Rough life.”

The fisherman laughs.

“Well… you reach. That’s what matter.”

Tom stands, shoulders squaring.

He looks inland — palm trees swaying, smoke rising from early morning cook fires, the hills glowing gold under the sunrise.

Somewhere out there… Jenna is walking on this same soil.

And he feels it.

Deep.

“Mi coming fi her.”

Luis steps onto the dock behind him.

“Then walk. The Lane not far.”

Tom nods.

He picks up his duffel bag.

Takes a breath.

And starts walking toward the island — toward the Lane, toward the truth, toward the woman he crossed the sea for.

The Lane

🏡 THE LANE’S AIRBNB — EARLY MORNING ARRIVAL

The shuttle pulls up in front of the Airbnb — a two‑story cream house with teal shutters, bougainvillea spilling over the fence, and a veranda that looks like it’s been waiting for them.

The Lane is quiet but not asleep. A rooster crows. A pot knocks in someone’s kitchen. A child peeks through a gate.

Mariah steps out first, breathing in the air like it’s medicine.

“Home.”

Jenna follows, eyes wide, suitcase rolling behind her.

Maya steps out next, stretching her back.

Malik and Jordan hop out last, grabbing the heavier bags.

The driver waves them off.

“Unnu behave. The Lane watching.”

🧳 INSIDE THE AIRBNB

The house is cool, freshly cleaned, with that faint scent of lavender and open windows. The living room has wicker furniture, bright cushions, and a big fan spinning lazily overhead.

Mariah claps her hands.

“Alright, let’s pick rooms.”

🛏️ ROOM ASSIGNMENTS

✨ Jenna’s Room

A soft, airy room with white curtains and a view of the mango tree outside. She sets her suitcase down gently, touching the windowsill like she’s grounding herself.

“This feels… safe.”

Mariah smiles from the doorway.

“Good. You need that.”

✨ Mariah’s Room

Her room is bigger, with a balcony overlooking the Lane. She steps inside and pauses — something in her chest loosens.

Jordan watches her from the hall, pretending he’s not watching.

“You good?”

Mariah nods.

“Mi more than good.”

✨ Maya’s Room

Maya gets the room with the teal bedspread and the little desk in the corner. She spins slowly, taking it all in.

“This is so cute.”

Malik leans on the doorframe.

“You like it?”

She nods.

“I love it.”

He smiles — that slow, dangerous smile.

✨ Malik & Jordan’s Room

Two twin beds, one fan, one window, one lizard on the wall watching them like a landlord.

Jordan drops his bag.

“Bro… the wildlife is inside.”

Malik laughs.

“Welcome to Jamaica.”

Jordan points at the lizard.

“Does he pay rent?”

Malik: “Him live here before you.”

🌅 THE HOUSE SETTLES

Doors close. Suitcases unzip. Showers run. The sun rises fully over the Lane.

Jenna sits on her bed, breathing deeply. Mariah stands on her balcony, watching the Lane wake up. Maya lies back on her teal bedspread, smiling at the ceiling. Malik and Jordan argue about who gets the bed closer to the fan.

And somewhere far off…

Tom is walking inland, soaked, exhausted, determined — getting closer with every step.

🌴 TOM ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE LANE

Tom slings his duffel bag over his shoulder and starts walking inland. The dock behind him fades into the morning light. The air is warm, thick with the smell of salt, woodsmoke, and frying dumplings somewhere nearby.

He follows a narrow dirt path until he reaches a small cluster of houses — pastel walls, zinc roofs, laundry lines swaying in the breeze.

A woman sweeping her yard looks up at him.

She pauses.

Stares.

Tom clears his throat.

“Good morning.”

She eyes him from head to toe — the soaked clothes, the tired eyes, the wedding ring.

“Mawnin’. You lost?”

Tom nods.

“Mi… mi looking for a place. A community. Called… the Lane.”

The woman raises an eyebrow.

“The Lane?”

Tom nods again.

“Yes. Mi wife… she might be there.”

The woman leans on her broom.

“You sure you want the Lane?”

Tom swallows.

“Mi sure.”

She studies him for a long moment, then points down the road.

“Walk straight till you see the big breadfruit tree. Turn left. Follow the sound of people business.”

Tom frowns.

“People business?”

She smirks.

“You will hear it. Trust mi.”

🚶‍♂️ THE WALK BEGINS

Tom starts down the road, boots squelching in the damp dirt.

A man repairing a bicycle calls out:

“Yow! You deh pon mission?”

Tom nods.

“Mi trying fi find the Lane.”

The man whistles.

“Eeeh… the Lane? Good luck, boss.”

Tom keeps walking.

A group of kids run past him, laughing, pointing.

“Look! Foreign man!”

“Him lost!”

“Him going Lane? Lawd!”

Tom forces a smile.

“Mi just need directions.”

One of the kids points.

“Breadfruit tree up deh so. Turn left.”

Tom nods.

“Thank you.”

🌳 THE BREADFRUIT TREE

He reaches it — massive, ancient, branches stretching wide like a guardian.

He turns left.

And that’s when he hears it.

Voices. Laughter. A pot cover slamming. A baby crying. A radio playing old reggae. A rooster arguing with someone’s grandmother.

The Lane.

Alive. Loud. Unfiltered.

Tom stops.

Takes a breath.

Whispers:

“Jenna… mi close.”

And he steps forward.

🌿 TOM MEETS THE LADY AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE LANE

Tom reaches the entrance — the point where the Lane truly begins. Voices echo in the distance. A pot cover slams. A baby cries. A rooster argues with someone’s grandmother.

He stops.

He’s too tired to face all that.

And that’s when he sees her.

A woman in her late fifties, skin glowing in the morning light, wearing a floral house dress and slippers. She’s sweeping her front step, watching him with the kind of eyes that see everything.

She tilts her head.

“You look tired, man.”

Tom nods, barely holding himself upright.

“Mi… mi looking for the Lane.”

She raises an eyebrow.

“You standing at the entrance.”

He swallows.

“Mi wife… she might be here. But mi… mi can’t go in yet. Mi too tired.”

She studies him — the soaked clothes, the trembling hands, the exhaustion in his bones.

Then she softens.

“Come.”

She sets down her broom and walks him toward a small side house behind her gate — a simple room with a bed, a fan, and clean sheets.

“Mi rent rooms sometimes. You can stay here today. Rest yourself.”

Tom’s voice cracks.

“Thank you.”

She hands him a towel.

“No one will see you here. The Lane busy, but mi yard quiet.”

Tom nods, relief washing over him.

“Mi pay you—”

She waves him off.

“Later. Right now, you need sleep.”

🛏️ TOM COLLAPSES INTO REST

He steps inside the small room. It smells like lavender and fresh air. He drops his duffel bag. Sits on the bed. Exhales.

His whole body shakes — not from fear, but from release.

He whispers:

“Jenna… mi reach.”

Then he lies back.

And for the first time since she left… Tom sleeps.

Deep. Heavy. Undisturbed.

Hidden from the Lane. Hidden from the crew. Hidden from the chaos.

Just a man who crossed the sea for love… finally resting.

🌤️ TOM — THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MORNING

Tom sits on the edge of the bed, elbows on his knees, staring at the floorboards like they might answer him.

And this morning… the thoughts are different.

Not just sorrow. Not just longing. But evaluation.

A man taking inventory of his own heart.

🟫 1. “Was it worth it?”

He remembers the storm, the danger, the way his chest felt like it would split open when he thought he might not make it.

And the question rises:

“Did I really have to risk my life to apologize… to someone who knew I was hurting too?”

It’s not bitterness. It’s clarity. A man finally seeing the whole picture, not just his guilt.

🟫 2. “She wasn’t the only one suffering.”

He thinks about the nights he swallowed his own pain so she wouldn’t feel alone. The moments he held her while he was breaking too. The times he tried to speak and she didn’t hear him because she was drowning in her own storm.

He whispers into the empty room:

“Mi was hurting too… and she knew.”

🟫 3. “This separation isn’t all on me.”

For the first time, he lets himself say it without shame:

“We both made mistakes.”

Not to blame her. Not to absolve himself. But to acknowledge the truth:

Two people cracked. Two people walked wrong. Two people contributed to the distance.

🟫 4. “If the table was turned…”

This one hits him the hardest.

He imagines:

  • Him walking out on her
  • Him disappearing with no explanation
  • Her calling and getting silence
  • Then him calling back later saying, “I’m going to Jamaica.”

He feels it in his chest.

A sharp, honest ache.

“She woulda mash up. She woulda feel abandoned. She woulda feel betrayed.”

And he realizes:

He didn’t deserve that either.

🟫 5. “We are equal players.”

He sits up straighter.

Not angry. Not resentful. Just… awake.

“This wasn’t a one‑sided hurt. This was two people failing to hold each other at the same time.”

And that thought doesn’t make him love her less. It makes him understand the relationship more.

It makes him want to fix it from a place of balance, not desperation.

It makes him want to speak to her as a man, not a beggar.

🌴 TOM — THE DECISION TO LIVE, NOT CHASE

Tom steps outside the little room, feels the Jamaican sun warming his shoulders, and something inside him… loosens.

For the first time since everything fell apart, he isn’t thinking:

“How do I fix this?”   He’s thinking:

“Why am I acting like I’m the only one who broke something?”

And that thought changes everything.

🟡 1. He realizes he doesn’t owe desperation to anyone

He risked his life. He crossed borders. He came with honesty. He came with intention.

And now?

He’s done performing pain.

🟡 2. He decides to enjoy himself

Not out of spite. Not to punish her. But because he finally sees:

He is an equal player, not a villain begging for forgiveness.

He can breathe. He can eat good food. He can walk on the beach. He can laugh with strangers. He can let the island soften him.

🟡 3. He decides: “If she wants to talk, she will reach out.”

He’s not hiding. He’s not running. He’s simply not chasing anymore.

“Mi come all this way. Mi show mi heart. Now is her turn.”

And that feels… fair.

🟡 4. He remembers he can work from anywhere

This is the part that makes him smile for real.

He doesn’t have to rush back. He doesn’t have to sit in his old house drowning in memories. He can stay here.

A week. A month. A season.

He can set up his laptop on a veranda overlooking the sea. He can take calls with the sound of waves behind him. He can rebuild himself in a place that feels alive.

🟡 5. He decides to let life meet him halfway

No more chasing. No more begging. No more imbalance.

If Jenna wants clarity, she’ll call. If she wants closure, she’ll call. If she wants him — truly wants him — she’ll call.

And if she doesn’t?

He’ll still be alright.

Because for the first time in a long time, Tom feels something he hasn’t felt since before the storm:

Self‑worth.

🌴 TOM’S FIRST DAY ENJOYING JAMAICA

The morning air is warm but gentle, like the island is greeting him without pressure. Tom steps outside the little guesthouse, stretches his back, and feels something he hasn’t felt in weeks:

Space.

Not emotional chaos. Not panic. Not guilt. Just… space.

🌞 1. The Breakfast Moment

He walks down the lane and finds a small cookshop with a hand‑painted sign.

A woman behind the counter looks him over with that Jamaican mix of curiosity and amusement.

“Yuh want breakfast, love?”

He nods, and she hands him:

  • Fried dumpling
  • Ackee and saltfish
  • A cup of hot, sweet ginger tea

He takes the first bite and actually closes his eyes.

Not because it’s dramatic — but because it’s the first time in a long time he’s tasted something without stress sitting on his tongue.

He thinks:

“Mi really here. Mi really alive. Mi really don’t have to rush back.”

🌊 2. The Beach Walk

After breakfast, he walks toward the shoreline. The sea is calm, blue like it’s been washed overnight.

He takes off his shoes and lets the water touch his ankles.

And for the first time since the breakup, he doesn’t think about what he lost. He thinks about what he still has:

  • His work
  • His freedom
  • His health
  • His dignity
  • His future

He whispers to himself:

“Mi can stay here as long as mi want.”

And it feels good. Shockingly good.

🟦 3. The Work Setup

Later, he finds a little café with Wi‑Fi, wooden tables, and a view of the sea.

He opens his laptop. Checks his emails. Realizes he can do everything from right here.

He laughs under his breath.

“All that stress… and mi coulda been working from Jamaica this whole time.”

He sends a few messages. Takes a call. Feels productive without feeling trapped.

🌺 4. The Unexpected Ease

A group of locals nearby are playing dominoes, slamming the tiles with that loud, joyful aggression Jamaicans love.

One of them looks at Tom.

“Yankee, yuh know how fi play?”

Tom shakes his head.

The man grins.

“Come, man. We teach yuh.”

And just like that, Tom is sitting at the table, learning, laughing, losing, winning, forgetting.

Not forgetting Jenna — but forgetting the version of himself who thought he had to chase her to prove his worth.

🌅 5. The Evening Realization

As the sun sets, Tom sits on the beach with a cold drink in his hand.

He watches the sky turn orange, then pink, then purple.

And the thought that rises in him is clean, steady, and honest:

“If she wants to talk to me… she will. If she doesn’t… mi still good.”

Not angry. Not bitter. Just balanced.

For the first time, he feels like a man who came to Jamaica for himself — not just for her.

🌫️ JENNA — REALIZING HE HASN’T REACHED OUT

Jenna wakes up expecting chaos in her phone.

She expects:

  • missed calls
  • long messages
  • apologies
  • explanations
  • something

Because that’s the version of Tom she’s used to — the man who tries to fix everything immediately, even when he’s hurting.

But when she picks up her phone…

Nothing.

No new messages. No missed calls. No “Good morning, can we talk?” No “I’m sorry again.” No “Please answer.”

Just silence.

And it hits her in a way she wasn’t prepared for.

🌫️ 1. The first thought: confusion

“Wait… he didn’t call?”

She checks again, like maybe the phone glitched.

Still nothing.

🌫️ 2. The second thought: disbelief

“Tom? Not reaching out? After everything?”

This is new. This is unfamiliar. This is unsettling.

🌫️ 3. The third thought: the sting

It lands in her chest before she can stop it:

“Is he… done?”

She sits up slowly, the room suddenly feeling too quiet.

🌫️ 4. The realization she didn’t expect

She remembers the message she sent:

“I’m safe.”

Short. Cold. Closed.

She expected him to push through it. To chase. To insist. To fight for her even when she wasn’t fighting for him.

But he didn’t.

And that’s when the truth hits her:

He’s not chasing anymore.

🌫️ 5. The emotional shift

Her mind starts spinning:

  • “Is he angry?”
  • “Is he hurt?”
  • “Is he giving up?”
  • “Is he… enjoying himself?”
  • “Is he waiting for me?”
  • “Is he moving on?”

The last one scares her the most.

🌫️ 6. The accountability she’s been avoiding

For the first time, she feels the mirror turn toward her.

She left. She disappeared. She shut him out. She didn’t answer. She didn’t check on him. She didn’t consider his pain.

And now he’s not running behind her.

And that makes her feel something she hasn’t felt in a long time:

Responsibility.

🌫️ 7. The moment she whispers to herself

Barely audible:

“Why didn’t he call me?”

Not angry. Not entitled. Just… shaken.

Because she expected him to hold the relationship together while she pulled away.

And now he’s not doing that.

And she doesn’t know what to do with the silence.

🌫️ JENNA — DEBATING WHETHER TO CALL HIM

Jenna sits on the bed with her phone in her hand, thumb hovering over his name. She expected her phone to be full of messages from him this morning.

But it’s empty.

And that emptiness hits her harder than she wants to admit.

🌸 1. Confusion settles first

“Why didn’t he call me?”

She checks the screen again. Still nothing.

This is strange. Tom always reaches out. Even when he’s hurting. Even when she pushes him away.

🌸 2. Then the discomfort creeps in

She frowns, staring at his name.

“Is he really not going to say anything?”

She expected him to break the silence. To try. To fix. To chase.

But he hasn’t.

And that unsettles her.

🌸 3. Pride tries to take over

She crosses her arms.

“He should call me first. He’s the one who—”

But the sentence collapses inside her.

Because deep down, she knows:

She walked out. She shut down. She ignored his calls. She didn’t explain herself. She didn’t check on him.

And she expected him to keep carrying the relationship alone.

🌸 4. The fear arrives quietly

A small, sharp thought:

“What if he’s done?”

Her chest tightens. She wasn’t ready for that possibility.

She thought he’d always be there, waiting, ready to fix things.

But now he’s silent.

And that silence feels like distance.

🌸 5. The longing she didn’t expect

She whispers to herself:

“I miss him.”

Not the arguments. Not the tension. Not the confusion.

She misses him.

His steadiness. His warmth. His presence. His voice.

And suddenly the silence feels heavy.

🌸 6. The accountability she’s been avoiding

She finally admits it:

“I hurt him too.”

She didn’t mean to. But she did.

And now she feels the weight of it.

🌸 7. The debate begins

She lifts the phone. Her thumb hovers over his name.

Call. Don’t call. Call. Don’t call.

Her heart whispers:

“Reach out.”

Her pride whispers:

“Wait.”

Her fear whispers:

“What if he doesn’t answer?”

Her longing whispers:

“What if he does?”

She sits there, breathing shallow, caught between all four voices, the phone glowing in her hand like it’s daring her to make a move.

🌸 JENNA — ASKING MARIAH WHAT SHE SHOULD DO

Jenna sits on the couch, phone in her hand, knee bouncing, breath shallow. She’s been staring at Tom’s name for so long the letters don’t even look real anymore.

She finally exhales, frustrated with herself, and whispers:

“I can’t do this.”

Then she grabs her keys and heads straight to Mariah’s place.

🌺 Mariah opens the door

Mariah takes one look at her — the tight shoulders, the restless eyes, the phone clutched like a lifeline — and she steps aside without a word.

“Come in.”

Jenna walks in, sits down, and immediately blurts out:

“He didn’t call me.”

Mariah raises an eyebrow, calm, steady, not feeding the panic.

“Okay… and how you feel about that?”

Jenna swallows hard.

“I don’t know. I thought he would. He always does.”

Mariah nods slowly, letting the silence stretch just enough for Jenna to hear herself.

🌺 Jenna’s voice cracks

“I don’t know if I should call him. I don’t know if he’s mad. I don’t know if he’s done. I don’t know anything.”

Mariah sits beside her, not touching her yet — just present.

“Do you want to talk to him?”

Jenna looks down at her hands.

“…yes.”

It’s barely a whisper.

🌺 Mariah finally speaks truth

“Then call him.”

Jenna’s head snaps up.

“But what if—”

Mariah holds up a hand.

“No. Listen.”

Her voice is soft but firm, the way she gets when she’s guiding Jenna back to herself.

“You left. You shut down. You didn’t answer him. You didn’t check on him. And he still tried.”

Jenna’s eyes fill with tears she didn’t expect.

Mariah continues:

“So if you want clarity… if you want peace… if you want him… you’re gonna have to take a step too.”

Jenna wipes her face, breathing uneven.

“But what if he doesn’t want to talk to me?”

Mariah shrugs gently.

“Then you’ll know. But sitting here guessing is tearing you up.”

She leans in, softer now:

“And Jenna… you’re not the only one who got hurt. You’re not the only one who needed support. You’re not the only one who felt abandoned.”

Jenna closes her eyes, the truth landing heavy.

Mariah finishes:

“If you want to fix this, you can’t wait for him to do all the work. Not this time.”

🌸 Jenna whispers the real question

“Do you think he’ll answer?”

Mariah smiles — not reassuring, not promising, just honest.

“I think he’ll answer if he wants to. And you’ll survive either way.”

Then she places Jenna’s phone gently in her hand.

“Call him when you’re ready.”

🌫️ JENNA — CALLING AND HANGING UP BEFORE IT RINGS

Jenna sits on Mariah’s couch, phone in her hand, breathing like she’s about to jump into cold water.

Mariah watches her quietly, not pushing, not rescuing — just holding space.

Jenna finally whispers:

“Okay… I’m gonna call.”

She taps Tom’s name.

The screen shifts. The call screen opens. Her heart slams into her ribs.

Ringing…

But it doesn’t even get that far.

The moment she sees the call connecting — before the first vibration, before the first tone — panic shoots through her chest.

Her thumb moves on instinct.

END CALL.

The line cuts.

Silence.

Jenna drops the phone onto her lap like it burned her.

🌸 Mariah looks at her gently

“You hung up.”

Jenna covers her face with both hands.

“I know! I know, I know, I know… I just— I couldn’t. I wasn’t ready. What if he answered? What if he didn’t? What if he sounded different? What if he sounded fine? What if he sounded hurt? What if—”

Mariah places a hand on her knee.

“Breathe.”

Jenna tries. Fails. Tries again.

🌸 The realization hits her

She whispers:

“I’m scared.”

Mariah nods.

“Of him? Or of what you’ll feel when you hear his voice?”

Jenna’s eyes fill instantly.

“…both.”

🌸 She picks up the phone again

Her thumb hovers over his name.

She doesn’t press it.

She just stares at it, trembling.

Because now she’s thinking:

  • What if he saw the missed call?
  • What if he thinks I changed my mind?
  • What if he thinks I’m playing games?
  • What if he calls back?
  • What if he doesn’t?

The silence feels heavier now — not because Tom is gone, but because she finally realizes she might have to be the one to bridge the gap.

🌸 Mariah speaks softly

“You’re not wrong for being scared. But you can’t heal anything if you keep hanging up before the truth arrives.”

Jenna nods, wiping her face.

“I just… I need a minute.”

Mariah smiles.

“Take it. But don’t take forever.”

🌴 TOM — SEEING THE MISSED CALL

Tom is sitting outside on a small veranda, laptop open, breeze moving through the trees. He’s relaxed in a way he hasn’t been in months — shoulders loose, breath steady, mind quiet.

He reaches for his phone casually, not expecting anything.

And then he sees it.

1 Missed Call From: Jenna

He freezes.

Not in panic. Not in desperation. Just… still.

Like the world paused for a second so he could feel the moment fully.

🟫 1. His first reaction: surprise

He blinks at the screen.

“She called?”

He wasn’t waiting for it. He wasn’t hoping for it. He wasn’t checking his phone every five minutes like before.

He had actually let go.

So seeing her name now hits different.

🟫 2. His second reaction: curiosity

He leans back in the chair, phone resting on his thigh.

“Why now?”

Not angry. Not bitter. Just genuinely wondering.

Because he knows Jenna — she doesn’t reach out unless something inside her shifts.

🟫 3. His third reaction: clarity

He notices something important:

She didn’t leave a voicemail. She didn’t text. She didn’t try again.

Just one call.

And that tells him everything.

“She got scared. She hung up.”

He knows her patterns. He knows her heart. He knows her fear.

And instead of feeling frustrated, he feels… calm.

🟫 4. His fourth reaction: power returning

He sits up straighter.

Not in ego. Not in revenge.

In balance.

For the first time, he realizes:

She’s reaching for him now. She’s the one unsure. She’s the one feeling the silence. She’s the one wondering what he’s thinking.

And he doesn’t need to chase anymore.

🟫 5. His final reaction: choice

He looks at the phone again.

He could call her back. He could text. He could ignore it. He could wait.

But instead of reacting emotionally, he thinks:

“If she really wants to talk… she’ll try again.”

Not out of spite. Not out of punishment.

Out of fairness.

Out of equality.

Out of the new truth he’s standing in:

They are equal players now.

He places the phone face‑down on the table. Takes a slow sip of his drink. And lets the breeze move through him.

No rush. No panic. No chasing.

Just a man living his life.

🌫️ JENNA — SEEING HE DIDN’T CALL BACK AND SPIRALING

Jenna sits on Mariah’s couch, still holding the phone like it’s fragile. Her thumb keeps brushing over the screen, checking for something — anything — that isn’t there.

Then she sees it:

No missed calls. No texts. No “Hey, I saw you called.” Nothing.

And her stomach drops.

🌸 1. The first hit: disbelief

She blinks at the screen.

“He didn’t call back?”

She refreshes the call log. Checks her notifications. Checks again.

Still nothing.

Her heart starts beating too fast.

🌸 2. The second hit: embarrassment

She covers her face with her hands.

“Oh my God… he saw it. He saw I called. He knows I hung up.”

Her mind starts racing:

  • He probably thinks I’m playing games.
  • He probably thinks I’m confused.
  • He probably thinks I don’t know what I want.

And the worst one:

He probably doesn’t care.

🌸 3. The third hit: fear

A cold, sharp fear slides into her chest.

“What if he’s really done with me?”

She never imagined a world where Tom didn’t chase. Didn’t call back immediately. Didn’t try to fix things.

But now she’s staring at proof.

And it shakes her.

🌸 4. The fourth hit: overthinking

Her mind starts spinning out of control:

  • Maybe he’s mad.
  • Maybe he’s hurt.
  • Maybe he’s tired of trying.
  • Maybe he’s finally putting himself first.
  • Maybe he’s moving on.
  • Maybe he’s waiting for me to try again.

Every possibility feels worse than the last.

She presses the phone to her chest, eyes stinging.

🌸 5. The fifth hit: regret

She whispers, barely audible:

“I shouldn’t have hung up.”

Mariah looks at her gently.

“You panicked. It happens.”

But Jenna shakes her head.

“No… I should’ve let it ring. I should’ve talked to him. I should’ve said something. Now he probably thinks I don’t care.”

Her voice cracks.

“I do care.”

🌸 6. The sixth hit: vulnerability

She looks at Mariah, eyes wide, scared, honest.

“What if he doesn’t want me anymore?”

Mariah doesn’t sugarcoat it.

“Then you’ll know. But right now? You’re spiraling because he didn’t react the way you expected.”

Jenna swallows hard.

Because that’s the truth.

She expected him to chase. She expected him to call back instantly. She expected him to fill the silence.

But he didn’t.

And now she’s the one feeling the distance.

🌸 7. The final hit: the spiral deepens

She stares at the phone again.

Her thoughts are loud, messy, tangled:

Should I call again? Should I wait? Should I text? Should I apologize? Should I pretend I didn’t call? Should I act like I’m fine? Should I tell him I miss him? Should I do nothing?

Her breath gets shallow.

Her hands shake.

And she whispers the truth she’s been avoiding:

“I think I’m losing him.”

🌫️ JENNA — CALLING AGAIN, THIS TIME LETTING IT RING

Jenna sits on Mariah’s couch, knees pulled up, phone in her hand like it’s the only thing keeping her grounded.

Mariah watches her quietly, giving her space but not letting her drown.

Jenna whispers:

“Okay… I’m doing it for real this time.”

She taps Tom’s name.

The call screen opens.

Her heart jumps into her throat.

And this time— she doesn’t hang up.

🌸 1. The first ring hits her body

Riiing…

Her breath catches.

Her fingers curl into the couch cushion.

Her eyes squeeze shut.

She whispers to herself:

“Please answer… or don’t… I don’t know… just—something.”

🌸 2. The second ring hits her pride

Riiing…

Her stomach twists.

She suddenly feels exposed, vulnerable, too open.

She glances at Mariah with wide, panicked eyes.

Mariah nods gently.

“Let it ring.”

Jenna swallows hard.

🌸 3. The third ring hits her fear

Riiing…

Her chest tightens.

Her mind starts racing:

  • What if he’s ignoring me?
  • What if he saw the first call and decided not to answer?
  • What if he’s done?
  • What if he’s with someone?
  • What if he’s okay without me?

Her breathing gets shallow.

Mariah places a steadying hand on her back.

“Breathe, Jenna.”

🌸 4. The fourth ring hits her regret

Riiing…

Tears gather in her eyes.

She whispers, voice cracking:

“I shouldn’t have left like that… I shouldn’t have ignored him… I shouldn’t have waited this long…”

Mariah squeezes her shoulder.

“You’re here now. That’s what matters.”

🌸 5. The fifth ring hits her hope

Riiing…

Her heart leaps.

Any second now— he might pick up.

She imagines his voice:

“Hello?”

And her whole body aches with wanting to hear it.

🌸 6. The sixth ring hits her reality

Riiing…

Her face falls.

Her throat tightens.

Her eyes burn.

Because she knows what comes after this.

The voicemail.

The silence.

The proof that he didn’t rush to answer.

🌸 7. The call goes to voicemail

The ringing stops.

A soft click.

Then the automated voice:

“Please leave your message after the tone—”

Jenna panics.

She hangs up immediately.

Her hands fly to her mouth.

Her whole body shakes.

🌸 Mariah pulls her close

Jenna whispers through tears:

“He didn’t answer.”

Mariah strokes her back.

“Maybe he’s busy. Maybe he’s thinking. Maybe he’s giving you space. Maybe he’s protecting his heart.”

Jenna shakes her head, voice breaking:

“Or maybe… maybe I waited too long.”

Mariah holds her tighter.

“You don’t know that yet.”

🌴 TOM — SEEING THE SECOND CALL AND DECIDING HOW HE FEELS

Tom is sitting outside, the breeze soft, the day easy, his mind calm. He’s not thinking about Jenna. Not obsessing. Not waiting.

He’s just… living.

Then his phone lights up.

Missed Call (2) From: Jenna

He stares at it for a long moment.

Not shocked. Not shaken. Just… aware.

🟫 1. His first reaction: recognition

He exhales slowly.

“She tried again.”

He knows her. He knows her patterns. He knows her heart.

The first call was fear. The second call is intention.

🟫 2. His second reaction: calm

He doesn’t feel that old rush of adrenaline. No panic. No “What does she want?” No “I need to fix this.”

Instead, he feels steady.

Balanced.

“She’s reaching out now.”

And that feels… fair.

🟫 3. His third reaction: clarity

He notices something important:

She let it ring this time.

That means:

  • she’s scared
  • she’s conflicted
  • she’s vulnerable
  • she’s thinking
  • she’s feeling the silence
  • she’s not as sure as she pretended to be

And instead of feeding his ego, it gives him understanding.

“She’s finally feeling what I felt.”

Not revenge. Not satisfaction.

Just truth.

🟫 4. His fourth reaction: boundaries

He sits back in his chair, phone resting in his palm.

He thinks:

“I’m not jumping to call her back.”

Not because he’s punishing her. Not because he’s playing games.

But because he’s done reacting from fear.

He wants to respond from choice, not panic.

🟫 5. His fifth reaction: compassion

He imagines her:

  • pacing
  • overthinking
  • scared
  • unsure
  • regretting
  • wanting to talk but not knowing how

And he feels a softness in his chest.

Not weakness. Not surrender.

Just empathy.

“She’s struggling too.”

🟫 6. His sixth reaction: self‑respect

He looks at the phone again.

He could call her back immediately.

But he doesn’t.

Because he remembers:

  • how she left
  • how she shut him out
  • how she ignored his calls
  • how she didn’t check on him
  • how he carried the weight alone

And he thinks:

“If she wants to talk… she’ll call again. Or she’ll text. Or she’ll say what she needs to say.”

He’s not chasing. He’s not begging. He’s not collapsing.

He’s standing.

🟫 7. His final reaction: peace

He places the phone face‑down again.

Takes a slow breath.

Feels the sun on his skin.

And decides:

“I’ll talk to her. But not from desperation. Not from guilt. Not from fear. From balance.”

He’s not avoiding her. He’s not ignoring her.

He’s simply letting her meet him where he is now.

A man who knows his worth.

🌫️ JENNA — SPIRALING HARDER WHEN HE DOESN’T CALL BACK

Jenna sits frozen on Mariah’s couch, staring at her phone like it betrayed her.

She keeps refreshing the screen.

Swipe down. Nothing. Swipe down again. Still nothing.

Her voice is barely a whisper:

“He didn’t call me back.”

Mariah watches her carefully, not rushing her, not interrupting.

🌸 1. The panic hits first

Jenna’s breath starts coming too fast.

Her hands shake.

Her mind starts firing off thoughts like sparks:

  • He saw it.
  • He definitely saw it.
  • He’s choosing not to call.
  • He’s done with me.
  • He doesn’t care anymore.
  • He’s over it.

Her chest tightens.

She presses a hand over her heart like she’s trying to hold it together.

🌸 2. Then the self‑blame crashes in

She whispers:

“This is my fault… I pushed him too far.”

Her eyes fill instantly.

She remembers:

  • ignoring his calls
  • shutting him out
  • leaving without explaining
  • assuming he’d always chase
  • assuming he’d always be there

And now he’s not reacting the way she expected.

And that terrifies her.

🌸 3. The overthinking spirals out of control

Her thoughts start looping, faster and faster:

Maybe he’s angry. Maybe he’s hurt. Maybe he’s protecting himself. Maybe he thinks I don’t care. Maybe he thinks I’m playing games. Maybe he’s tired of me. Maybe he’s moving on. Maybe he’s finally done.

She covers her face with both hands.

“I can’t breathe.”

Mariah rubs her back gently.

“Slow down. You’re spiraling.”

But Jenna shakes her head, tears slipping out.

“I called him twice. Twice, Mariah. And he didn’t call back. He always calls back.”

🌸 4. The fear of losing him hits her full force

Her voice breaks:

“What if I waited too long? What if I pushed him away for real this time?”

Mariah doesn’t sugarcoat it.

“You hurt him, Jenna. And he’s allowed to protect his heart.”

Jenna wipes her face, trembling.

“But I don’t want to lose him.”

🌸 5. The vulnerability she’s been avoiding finally surfaces

She whispers, raw and honest:

“I love him. I didn’t want to admit it before… but I do. And now I think I messed everything up.”

Mariah takes her hand.

“Then you’re going to have to show him that. Not with panic. Not with fear. With honesty.”

Jenna nods, crying quietly.

Because she knows Mariah is right.

And she knows Tom’s silence isn’t punishment — it’s a boundary.

A boundary she never expected him to have.

🌸 6. The spiral reaches its peak

She stares at her phone again.

Her voice is barely audible:

“Should I call again? Should I text? Should I wait? What do I do?”

Mariah squeezes her hand.

“You breathe. And then you decide what you want — not what you fear.”

Jenna nods, but her eyes stay glued to the phone.

Because the truth is simple and terrifying:

She’s not in control anymore. And she knows it.

🌫️ JENNA — CALLING HIM A THIRD TIME

Jenna sits on Mariah’s couch, knees pulled up, phone clutched in both hands like it’s the only thing keeping her from falling apart.

Her eyes are red. Her breathing is uneven. Her thoughts are loud.

She whispers:

“I can’t take this silence.”

Mariah watches her gently, not pushing, not judging — just present.

Jenna’s thumb hovers over Tom’s name again.

Her voice shakes:

“If he doesn’t answer this time… I don’t know what I’ll do.”

Mariah places a steadying hand on her back.

“Just breathe. And be brave.”

Jenna nods, even though she doesn’t feel brave at all.

She taps his name.

The call screen opens.

And this time, she doesn’t hesitate.

She doesn’t hang up.

She lets it ring.

🌸 1. The first ring hits like a punch

Riiing…

Her whole body tenses.

Her fingers dig into the couch cushion.

Her breath catches.

She whispers:

“Please… please…”

🌸 2. The second ring hits her fear

Riiing…

Her heart is pounding so hard she can hear it in her ears.

She squeezes her eyes shut.

Mariah whispers:

“Let it ring. You’re doing good.”

But Jenna’s voice cracks:

“What if he’s ignoring me?”

🌸 3. The third ring hits her regret

Riiing…

Tears spill over.

She shakes her head.

“I shouldn’t have left. I shouldn’t have shut him out. I shouldn’t have waited this long.”

Mariah rubs her shoulder.

“You’re here now. That’s what matters.”

🌸 4. The fourth ring hits her longing

Riiing…

She imagines his voice.

Imagines him saying her name.

Imagines the relief she’d feel just hearing him breathe.

Her chest aches.

“I miss him so much.”

🌸 5. The fifth ring hits her reality

Riiing…

Her face falls.

Her breath stutters.

Her hands start shaking.

Because she knows what comes next.

The voicemail.

The silence.

The proof that he didn’t rush to answer.

🌸 6. The call goes to voicemail again

The ringing stops.

A soft click.

Then the automated voice:

“Please leave your message after the tone—”

Jenna panics.

She hangs up immediately.

Her whole body collapses forward, elbows on her knees, hands covering her face.

🌸 7. The spiral hits full force

She whispers through tears:

“He didn’t answer again. He didn’t call back. He didn’t text. He didn’t do anything.”

Mariah pulls her into a hug.

Jenna sobs into her shoulder.

“I think I lost him.”

Mariah strokes her hair.

“You don’t know that yet. But you do know this — he’s not chasing anymore. If you want him… you’re going to have to show it.”**

Jenna nods, crying harder.

Because she knows Mariah is right.

And she knows Tom’s silence isn’t cruelty — it’s a boundary.

A boundary she never expected him to have.

🌴 TOM CALLING BACK — CALM, GROUNDED, UNMOVING

Jenna’s phone lights up.

For a second she freezes — because she wasn’t expecting this tone, this timing, this version of him.

Tom is sitting outside, breeze brushing his shoulders, voice low and steady when she answers.

He doesn’t rush. He doesn’t fill the silence. He doesn’t apologize for exist

He doesn’t apologize for existing.

He just says, in that deep, rested tone:

“Hey… I saw your calls.”

Not accusing. Not needy. Not emotional.

Just present.

Jenna swallows, because she can hear it — the shift. This isn’t the man who left voicemails with shaking breath. This isn’t the man who chased her shadow.

This is the man who found his center.

Tom continues, still calm:

“I wasn’t ignoring you. I was giving you space… and giving myself some too.”

He lets that sit. He’s not explaining himself — he’s stating truth.

Then, gently:

“You reached out. So I’m here now. What’s going on?”

No pressure. No heat. No fear.

Just a man who knows his worth, sitting in his own peace, inviting her to speak if she wants to — and letting her choose.

And that’s what shakes her the most.

Because for the first time… Tom isn’t calling from pain. He’s calling from power.

🌴 TOM CALLING BACK — CALM, GROUNDED, UNMOVING

Jenna’s phone lights up.

Just the screen. No vibration. No frantic ringing. Just a soft glow in the dim room — like the universe tapping her shoulder.

For a second, she freezes.

Because she wasn’t expecting this. Not this tone. Not this timing. Not this version of him.

She picks up the phone slowly, like it might burn her fingers.

Tom.

She hesitates… then answers.

📞 THE CALL

Tom is sitting outside somewhere — she can hear the breeze brushing past the phone, the quiet hum of night, the steadiness in his breath.

And when he speaks?

It’s a different man.

A man who has been cracked open and put back together by truth, by distance, by the sea, by himself.

His voice is low, rested, unshaken.

“Hey… I saw your calls.”

No accusation. No guilt trip. No panic.

Just presence.

Jenna swallows hard, because she can hear it — the shift.

This isn’t the man who left shaky voicemails. This isn’t the man who begged through tears. This isn’t the man who chased her shadow until he collapsed.

This is the man who found his center.

Tom continues, still calm:

“I wasn’t ignoring you. I was giving you space… and giving myself some too.”

He lets the silence breathe.

Not to manipulate. Not to make her fill it. Just because he’s finally comfortable in it.

Because for the first time…

Tom isn’t calling from pain. He’s calling from power.

Not power over her — power within himself.

The kind of power that comes from surviving storms, from facing himself, from finally understanding what love requires.

And Jenna feels it. Deep. In her chest. In her breath. In the part of her that never stopped hoping he’d grow into this version of himself.

🎶 THE DANCE — WHERE EVERYTHING SHIFT

They reach the venue — an open‑air dance with zinc fences, string lights, and a sound system taller than the building.

The bass hits them in the chest.

People dancing. People laughing. People drinking. People living.

The Miami crew steps in and the whole place turns to look — not judging, just curious.

🎶 THE DANCE — WHERE EVERYTHING SHIFT

They reach the venue — an open‑air dance with zinc fences, string lights, and a sound system taller than the building.

The bass hits them in the chest.

People dancing. People laughing. People drinking. People living.

The Miami crew steps in and the whole place turns to look — not judging, just curious.

Mariah & Jordan

After two drinks, Mariah pulls Jordan onto the dance floor.

He tries to act cool, but he’s smiling too hard.

Mariah moves. Jordan follows. They laugh, spin, bump into people, and the crowd starts cheering them on.

Maya & Malik

Maya is glowing — the lights catching her skin, her smile wide.

Malik leans in.

“You enjoying yourself?”

She nods.

“Mi love it.”

They dance close — not wild, just connected. Shanice watches them with a proud smirk.

“Maya… yuh fit right in.”

Shanice

She’s the queen of the night — greeting people, dancing with strangers, pulling the Miami crew into the culture.

🌺 Jenna — THE QUIET HEARTBEAT

Jenna stands near the bar, sipping a drink, watching everyone have fun.

She smiles… but her chest feels heavy.

She whispers:

“Tom would’ve loved this.”

The DJ switches to old ska — the kind Tom always played on Sundays.

Her breath catches.

She looks down at her drink.

“Mi wish he was here.”

She looks up—

And freezes.

👀 THE MOMENT THAT DOESN’T FEEL REAL

Standing in the doorway…

Under the lights…

Calm. Grounded. Unmoving.

Tom.

Jenna blinks.

Once. Twice.

“No… No way.”

She looks at her drink like it betrayed her.

She looks back.

He’s still there.

Tom steps inside slowly, eyes scanning the crowd — not searching, not panicked, just present.

The music fades in her ears. The crowd blurs. Her pulse is loud.

She whispers:

“This drink playing tricks on me…”

But it’s not.

Tom is real. Tom is here. Tom walked into the dance like a man who finally knows who he is.

And Jenna’s whole world tilts.

🌴 TOM SEEING JENNA — THE DANCE FLOOR MOMENT

The music is heavy, the lights low, the crowd moving like waves. Mariah and Jordan are still dancing, laughing, spinning under the string lights. Maya and Malik are tucked near the bar, teasing each other, glowing in their own rhythm. Shanice is somewhere in the crowd, shouting greetings, pulling people into the vibe.

And Jenna?

She’s standing near the edge of the dance floor, drink in hand, half‑smiling, half‑thinking.

The DJ drops an old ska tune — the kind Tom used to hum when he was fixing things around the house. Her chest tightens. She looks down at her drink, then up at the crowd.

And that’s when she sees him.

👀 The Moment

Tom is standing near the entrance — calm, grounded, unmoving. The lights catch his face just enough for her to recognize him. He’s not rushing. He’s not searching. He’s just there.

Jenna blinks once, twice.

“No… mi drink playing tricks on me.”

But it’s not.

Tom’s eyes find hers across the crowd. No words. No gestures. Just that quiet recognition — the kind that makes the whole dance slow down.

The bass fades in her ears. The laughter turns distant. The world narrows to one heartbeat.

He nods — small, respectful, steady.

She exhales, hand trembling around her glass.

Mariah notices first.

“Jenna… you good?”

Jenna whispers:

“He’s here.”

Mariah turns, sees him, and her face softens.

“Then maybe it’s time.”

Tom starts walking — slow, deliberate, through the crowd that parts without knowing why. Every step feels like a drumbeat. Every breath feels like a prayer.

And when he reaches her, he doesn’t speak right away. He just stands there, the music wrapping around them.

Then, softly:

“Mi didn’t come to chase you. Mi come to see you.”

Jenna’s eyes glisten.

“You found me.”

Tom smiles — calm, grounded, unmoving.

“Mi never stop looking.”

🌺 THE CONVERSATION UNDER THE LIGHTS

The crowd moves around them, but it’s like they’re standing inside a bubble — sound muffled, air thick, hearts loud.

Tom’s voice is low, steady.

“Mi didn’t come fi cause scene.”

Jenna nods, eyes glistening.

“You already did… just by walking in.”

He smiles, small, humble.

“Mi only walk where truth lead mi.”

She laughs softly — not mocking, just tired.

“Truth? You used to run from it.”

Tom looks down, then back up.

“Mi know. But mi learn something in the quiet. When you stop running, truth catch up… and it don’t hurt so bad anymore.”

The lights flicker across his face — calm, grounded, unmoving.

Jenna takes a slow sip of her drink, trying to steady herself.

“You look different.”

“Mi feel different.”

“You sound different too.”

“Mi had to lose mi voice before mi could find it again.”

She exhales, eyes softening.

“Why now, Tom?”

He steps closer — not too close, just enough for her to feel the warmth.

“Because mi couldn’t let Easter come and still carry the same silence.”

The DJ switches to a slower tune — ska melting into soul.

Jenna looks at him, really looks.

“You came all this way just to talk?”

Tom nods.

“Mi came to listen.”

That line lands heavy.

She blinks, fighting tears.

“And if I don’t have anything to say?”

He smiles.

“Then mi wait. Mi not rushing you again.”

The lights shimmer between them — red, gold, green — like the Lane itself blessing the moment.

Jenna whispers:

“You really changed.”

Tom’s voice is quiet, but sure.

“Mi didn’t change to win you back. Mi changed to deserve peace.”

She stares at him — the man she loved, the man she lost, the man standing in front of her now.

And for the first time, she doesn’t feel anger.

She feels release.

🌙 THE MUSIC SLOWS… AND THE CROWD STARTS TO NOTICE

The DJ fades the riddim down — not all the way, just enough for the bass to soften and the melody to stretch out like warm honey.

People start swaying instead of jumping. The lights dim into gold and green. The air thickens.

And right there, in the middle of the dance, Tom and Jenna are standing face‑to‑face, talking low, talking real.

At first, nobody pays attention.

But then…

Mariah stops dancing with Jordan. She nudges him.

“Look.”

Jordan turns, eyes widening.

“A wah dis…”

Maya and Malik pause mid‑wine, both turning toward the glow where Tom and Jenna stand.

Shanice, halfway through greeting someone, freezes.

“No sah… is really him.”

The crowd doesn’t know the story — but they know energy. They know when something sacred is happening.

People start shifting subtly:

  • A few step aside
  • A few whisper
  • A few pretend not to look but definitely looking
  • The DJ glances over, sensing the moment

The dance floor opens just a little around them — not dramatically, just enough to give them space.

Tom notices the shift first.

He glances around, then back at Jenna.

“People watching.”

Jenna breathes out a shaky laugh.

“They always watching.”

Tom shakes his head gently.

“Mi not here fi them.”

The lights flicker across his face — calm, grounded, unmoving.

Jenna’s voice softens.

“Then why are you here?”

Tom steps closer, but not too close — just enough for her to feel the warmth of his presence.

“Because mi couldn’t let you carry everything alone.”

A murmur ripples through the crowd — not gossip, not judgment, just recognition.

Something is happening.

Something real.

Mariah whispers to Maya:

“This is bigger than a dance.”

Maya nods slowly.

“This is a moment.”

Even the DJ feels it.

He lowers the volume again, letting the music become a heartbeat under their words.

🌺 THE CROWD HOLDS ITS BREATH

Jenna looks at Tom — really looks — and the whole dance seems to lean in.

Her voice is barely above a whisper.

“I didn’t think I’d see you again.”

Tom’s answer is steady.

“Mi didn’t think mi would find myself again.”

A few people gasp quietly. Someone mutters, “Lawd…” Someone else says, “Dem two have history.”

But nobody interrupts.

Nobody steps in.

The dance, the lights, the people — they all give Tom and Jenna the space to speak their truth.

And in that slow, glowing moment…

It feels like the whole Lane is listening.
